Review: Great bit of kit easy to uses and has a great feature of a face smiles when the temperature is fine also has a memory button the the back so as you can see what the temperature was . Review: I am shocked that this is so poor, when it's a medical device certified for home use (CE marked by SGS FIMKO OY, a notified body/audit company in Finland, manufactured in China by AViTA Corporation, *branded* by Salter). I work for a medical device manufacturer and simply cannot believe this company and notified body have allowed something so unreliable to be released onto the market. I have carefully followed all the directions and tested this against two different oral thermometers. The oral thermometers agree with each other within a few tenths of a degree C, and repeated readings show the same degree of agreement. You expect an ear thermometer to show a different temperature, as it's measuring a different part of your body. But this thermometer has hugely unreliable readings. It fluctuates between agreeing with the oral thermometers (more or less) for a few readings, then swinging wildly around to 'you are dead' temperatures, both high and low. It does this whether I'm measuring myself, measuring someone else, or if they are measuring themselves. It performed in exactly the same way straight out of the box, when dirty and when cleaned according to instructions. Because of this thermometer an ambulance was called to my house for my wife (who was ill at the time, but with only a slight fever measured by ambulance, rather than the fever above 40C that this thermometer consistently read). We then spent many hours at hospital unnecessarily when the original referral to an ambulance would not have been made on the basis of a lower fever (combined with her other symptoms). The GP specifically said on the phone that the high fever was why he was referring (otherwise he would have recommended staying home and monitoring symptoms). If we had been given a true temperature reading, the ambulance might have attended someone else who really did need help, and we wouldn't have had to expose my pregnant wife to a hospital environment in the middle of a pandemic.
