Review: Received the StarTech box within two days using Amazon Prime Shipping. Plug & Play with my ATI Radeon 5450 Video Card. I had to use a second monitor so I could setup up my Sony KP-53HS30 53" 1080i HD RPTV circa 2001 as my main "monitor" and my temporary PC Monitor as my duplicate. Bottom line : I have a full 16:9 Aspect ratio with a 1080i signal on my Sony RPTV coming from my PC's video card via the StarTech box. The hardest part was setting up the ATI Radeon Catalyst Converter. The big hint here is fumbling through their terrible GUI to setup your 1080i/30fs signal. Buried within the endless useless menu's. Once that was done, finding the setting for adjusting position (scaling too was a ball buster) was not an easy task. Once I found it (don't ask), I was able to move the image to the right of my RPTV's screen. Of course text on a 1080i RPTV @ 1280x768 (?) is almost impossible to read but, when watching streaming video and navigating my way through itunes, WMP, & other basic HTPC tasks, it's fine. My Hauppauge HDTV Tuner looks great up on the old "Big Screen". Until my Sony says it's time (biting my tongue), I'm happy that I am not shelling out $1000 on a new 58" LED TV.

Review: I purchased this product in order to run HDMI enabled Android tablets and mobile devices on a video projector for presentations. As a previous viewer noted (unfortunately, after I bought the thing) this box will have issues with HDCP (HollywooD Cripples their Products). Basically, this box will indeed downsample/convert a signal to VGA... but certain devices will not output a signal when they detect their signal being downsampled. Defective by design in order to "combat teh piratez" I guess, but at the expense of the legit consumer. So, all I get is a black screen. However, it works fine with my XBOX, possibly because the signal is lower resolution. And it will probably work with an HDMI laptop, if there is such a thing. Since the product description doesn't specify which devices it works on and which ones it doesn't, it is in fact quite useless for the average person's needs.
