Review: I purchased this (Renesas-based) PCI-E USB 3.0 adapter for the purpose of connecting the Microsoft Kinect 2.0 for Windows, which requires the full 5Gbps throughput of a USB 3.0 connection. My system is based on Windows 10 Pro 64 and, in practice, I found that the Kinect 2 would be recognised in the Device Manager but with an exclamation mark and it wouldn't be recognised by the applications. When using Microsoft's drivers (default Windows 10 drivers), the Kinect was recognised in both the device manager and the applications, but it would not deliver a sustainable 5Gbps throughput, which is required for the target frame rate of the Kinect. When plugged into the motherboard's USB 3.0 ports (X99 platform), the Kinect 2.0 works fine. I am now using the Startech PCI-E adapter to connect other, less demanding, devices to the computer, but I am unhappy with the fact the Startech does not deliver on its promise. If you are after a PCI-E high performance (5Gbps) USB 3.0 adapter, I cannot recommend this one.
