Review: Love this but set up with internet had challenges. Worked straight away with bluetooth. Took a few days to get it to connect to the router, still not sure why it worked eventually. Sound is amazing. Lovely size for travelling too and easy to bring from room to room.

Review: Wanted to get a Bluetooth speaker and with Black Friday deals. Never felt like a better time. Settled on the Sonos Roam as it’s one of the only Bluetooth speakers that support Apple AirPlay and connect at home via Wi-Fi so I chose it. Unboxed the product and first time setting it up, the app failed which led to me having to force reset the Sonos and restart. A long set up process later and everything was working. Tested the speaker and was very disappointed. From about 0-50% volume the speaker sounds very respectable with a decent amount of bass for the size while also having clear minds and detailed treble which can all be customised in the Sonos app. But after 50% volume, there is not a lot of bass response and all you hear is mids which do not sound as clear as below 50% volume. This is not your speaker for playing music loudly. Maybe for enjoying music inside in one room or quietly outside but i cannot recommend for anything else. AirPlay 2 is great for connecting to other speakers in your household e.g. multi room and works fine without any latency, but that’s when the device shows up in AirPlay. Very often I would turn the device on, it would be connected to the internet (voice assistant working) but the speaker wouldn’t show up in AirPlay list. Bluetooth would always work fine but AirPlay was super unreliable. Also the app takes ages to connect to the speaker and sometimes, just doesn’t want to connect causing you to have to force shutdown and turn on the speaker again. Battery life is also average at best. Lasted a few hours but don’t expect anything further. But having wireless charging is a nice bonus. Overall, if you have other Sonos connected devices and need a speaker to e.g. add music to another room or just need a small speaker to carry the occasional time you go out then this will fit the bill. But the connectivity and software issues, paired with the audio quality drop after 50%, I cannot recommend the speaker for the asking price. I would look towards the Bose Soundlink flex or the BeoSound A1 2nd gen.
