Review: If you’re tempted by what looks like a stylish radio, slightly smaller than the classic Revival model, with plenty of features, I’d pay John Lewis a visit and just spend 5 minutes in their hifi section comparing the sound quality. I didn’t, and I regretted it. The sound of this unit is clear, but it lacks any significant bass and listening to music, either classical or pop/rock, feels empty and tinny. Sadly I bought the Rambler in the Black Friday sale and had to return it and buy a full price RD70 which is only slightly bigger but is leagues ahead in sounds quality. Really rather surprising that Roberts would sacrifice their sound quality to such an extent in a unit which could easily have fitted a satisfying base unit. Even more surprising are the reviews which claim this machine sounds anything better than a 1990s clock radio.
