Review: Really nice soft breeze thanks to the deep blades, it does look massive, but takes up less space than a regular oscillating fan. Very low noise levels, on the lowest speed it's barely noticeable at night. It's a very well designed and built machine. Really let down by the controls, as much as I love the fan itself, the poor controls were almost a deal breaker. And after a couple of months I regret not returning it. So many issues, but my main beef is with the beeping. Each press of anything is accompanied by a loud beep. When you turn it off, you get a long loud beep. When it has been on for a bit you have to press any button to wake up the controls, then the button you actually want to press, so two beeps. If your partner (who typically hates a fan on at night because of the noise, but is actually ok with this one) is sleeping, when you go to turn it off they hear BEEP BEEEEEP. If you adjust the speed, 12 BEEPS. It's like an alarm clock, it sets the dog off and wakes the other half (lol notice the order or priorities there). I understand that the beep could be helpful to visually impaired people, especially given there are no other braille or texture differences in the base or remote buttons, but the lower model does have a mute feature, the more expensive 1056 does not. The remote is circular so it's hard to know where it's pointing, and difficult to orient your way around in a dark or light room. When I pick up a regular remote I know where it is in my hand and where the pointy end is pointing, with this I pick it up, have to look down at it, find the IR bulb and rotate it to it's pointing forward ish, then look back down to the buttons, move my thumb to press a button without accidentally rotating it in my palm and point the thing the wrong way. The buttons are horrible cheap 80s Speak&Spell plastic poppy dome style things, you have to press quite hard to register a click (again risking messing up the aim by rotating it a bit or getting a finger in the way... urghhh, I hate it, I really really hate it) The order of the controls on the base unit is different from the remote, it would have been so simple to have kept the order the same left to right. The remote has a plus and minus for the speed, but the base has one button to increase speed. So if you are on speed 2 but want to have speed 1, you have press 11 times (plus the press to "wake" it up). All the time BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, it drives you mad. I thought the controls were a bit poor when I first used them, but they would be something I would get used to. If anything they are so annoying, I get more and more wound up. The buttons for side to side and up and down are swapped round on the remote, so press press press beep beep beep press beep press beep as you try to find what you are actually pressing is doing. The buttons on the base are like touch buttons under a smooth piece of plastic, they only light up if they are active so it is difficult to know where to press, let alone what you are pressing. So disappointing, it's such a great device, a lot of time has been spent getting it to the level of quality it has achieved. With absolutely no time spend on the UX, someone must have noticed the circular control is difficult to use, but instead of fixing it with a slightly different shape, they decided order the buttons randomly and call it a day. I sincerely hope Meaco take this feedback on and make some tiny changes to the controls and make this fan perfect.
