Review: Bought two of these for my studio flat, which is really too small for an air conditioner or air cooler. They are brilliant! They blast out far much more air than my old 1980's desktop fan of the same size! Looking forward to when we get the long, hot, blistering summer nights that I usually despair of. It has to be said though, when I ordered two of these, one had to be returned due to unboxing the product and finding that the blades were badly cracked. Amazon quickly helped me solve this issue by sending out a replacement, next day delivery, which was perfect. So, while I would have liked fans which came with a remote control, this wasn't necessarily going to be a selling point for me. As anyone who lives in the UK knows, we only really have a few weeks of the year which are anywhere near hot enough to use a fan, so I was happy with the manual operation options which feature on this model. The installation of the fan itself is a breeze, if a little untidy, since the securing screws will be visible once installed. They are both located at the extreme top of the unit though, so should not really pose any aesthetic issues for most people. I'm happy with the way mine looks, and I can only see the mounting screws because I am aware they are there. I hope this makes sense. Despite what the instruction manual says, these fans do NOT come with wall plugs, so unless you intend to fix them to a wooden surface, you will need to budget for these. The design suggests that the fan can be operated via the pull cords or the dial. For me, the dial seems to be designed as more of an indicator of the fan speed, with notches on it to mark the 1, 2, 3 and OFF positions. It's really too thin to be used as a control dial, but I guess gentle use might be OK. I would personally suggest just using the pull cords though. The pull cords are decent quality and easy to use. The left hand one (which is the shorter one of the two on mine) switches the oscillating function on and off. It appears that this function has it's own motor, and not the old-fashioned mechanical pickup design of a typical desk fan. This makes the cost of this fan an absolute bargain in my opinion, and also means that the oscillation speed is consistent throughout the fan speed range. The right hand cord controls the fan speed, each well-defined pull cycling through the 1, 2, 3 and OFF positions in sequence. Overall, a fantastic product, and highly recommended for anyone in a small, hot flat who is dreading the summer months. My only bugbear is the cord length. It's really not long enough unless you have high-mounted power sockets. Anyone who is into a little electrical DIY will be able to either extend or replace the existing cord though, so I don't see that being too big a problem. Get it now before the summer sellout. You won't regret it!
