Review: Got this on a special. wasn't too sure at first as it wasn't cheap to start with. So glad I did. Had a sarnie toaster with detachable plates in the past, but that was back in the late nineties and that was so useless and by another manufacturer, that wasn't cheap either. Those cooking plates were thin and rarely held in place. Used half a dozen times in a year and dumped. Now this one seems so solid and a lot sturdier. The plates are easy to swap and clean. Cooks well and makes a great toasted sarnie and a decent panini. Only grumble is it does take a little while longer to heat up, but once it's up and running we're cooking.

Review: Like all things Cuisinart, this sandwich toaster is a good-looking product. However, there are a couple of things that detract from it receiving a better review. Firstly, as the top and bottom sections are hinged at the back, as opposed to the top section being 'free-floating' as per the design of other manufacturers, such as Tefal and Sage, when you close the two sections together in order to obtain a seal, it squishes the contents towards the front of the machine; this design also makes it quite difficult to close, quite a lot of force can sometimes be needed. Secondly, the catch that keeps the machine closed while the sandwich is cooking is difficult to engage and sometimes has a mind of its own and disengages, allowing the top section to lift. Thirdly, the build quality is very thin/tinny/plasticky .... the temperature dial especially feels as though it's come from a child's toy. However, the results of the sandwiches themselves are pretty decent and it's fairly easy to clean!
