Review: I'm a HUGE fan of AVerMedia. Let's get that out of the way now. I've been using their capture cards going back to the Live Gamer HD 2 and before this, the Live Gamer 4K. Outside of some occasional weirdness with the Live Gamer HD 2 on my old X99 system, they've never given me any trouble and have really allowed me to expand what I do for livestreams. The Live Gamer Duo is unique from previous entries in that it offers 2 HDMI inputs instead of the single input found on most cards. Now, I know that after this product came out, Elgato released the Camlink Pro, which allows four inputs, but at the time, this was the best way to get multiple inputs, which has become a must for modern livestreams now that DSLR and mirrorless cameras have become the go-to instead of webcams. There are limitations to be aware of right away, the most disappointing for most creators is that neither input is capable of recording above 1080p60. HDMI 1 can pass through 4kp60 with HDR, but you can't record it. HDMI 2 is limited even more, only allowing up to 1080p60, although given current streaming standards, this isn't as big of a deal as some would make it out to be. It's still worth noting those limitations, as if you need the 4k recording, the Camlink Pro is probably the better route to go. Those limitations aside, for streaming, they're mostly irrelevant as most people attempting to stream will max out at 1080p60 anyway regardless of what they're doing. And frankly, the card does handle both inputs with ease. I've done a few streams now where I've utilized both inputs and it has performed exactly as I've needed it to. If recording is the main thing you're doing and 4k matters, again, you'll want to consider other options. Or you can do what I was able to do with my current build, and have a Live Gamer 4k in the system at the same time as the Duo (yes, it works). But that isn't always going to be possible unless you have a lot of PCI-e lanes to work with. In terms of setup, AVerMedia's products continue to be very easy. Insert it into a PCI-e slot, power on your system, and install the driver from their website and you should be good to go. You don't need to run their software, although it is required if you want to change the RGB lighting on the front of the card. Beyond that, it should be detected by your preferred streaming software without issue. This product, like the Live Gamer 4k, allows you to use the lighting for status effects, such as recording and if there's an issue with the product. The recording limitations aside, this product works very well and will allow you to use your favorite camera along with your console and/or gaming PC (if on a dual-PC set-up) instead of having to choose one or the other. I'm hoping that down the road, AVerMedia releases an updated version that allows for 4k60 recording, but for my purposes, this is more than enough. As I stated earlier, I've managed to get both the Live Gamer 4k and Duo working at the same time, which solves the 4k recording situation as that capture card is capable of recording up to 4k60. If you're looking for a dual capture card for around $200 (the price as of writing this) and don't mind the lack of 4k recording, you can't go wrong with this one.

Review: ********************************** UPDATED REVIEW - 1 STAR - 5/3/2018 Not more than a day after I wrote my initial review below, this card stopped cooperating with me. When it worked (rather briefly. I'm talking maybe 4 streams' worth), it worked rather well. Yesterday, while I was streaming on twitch, I switched to a new scene in Streamlabs OBS while streaming my Nintendo Switch (Breath of the Wild, to be specific). I took a short 2 minute break with a 'Be Right Back' scene playing in OBS. When I came back and went back over to my regular streaming scene, the video capture was frozen. I tried rebooting, shutting off my pc and letting it relax for a few minutes, then again overnight, unplugging and re-plugging the HDMI cords in the back of the switch dock and the capture card, but to no avail. The signal couldn't be found and without doing more tinkering than I'm willing to commit to, this card is now a brick in my computer. I am so frustrated, I took a long lunch at work today to drive to the nearest Fry's Electronics to get an Elgato HD60 Pro since they're sold out and overpriced on many popular sites online right now. Not sure why. Maybe because nobody else makes decent streaming capture cards anymore these days? Who knows. Avermedia had me as a customer after providing pretty solid performance with their 1080i DarkCrystal HD Capture Pro card, but this upgrade to the Live Gamer HD 2 has been a complete disaster. Elgato, show me what you've got. You win by default. ********************************** ORIGINAL REVIEW - 4 STARS - 5/1/2018 - I'm hoping some of the information below will help some. I will dock this card 1 star for sub-par customer service. I've run into audio issues, like others, while trying to get this card to work while streaming on multiple platforms. I was able to solve the issue on my own, thankfully. Avermedia's customer service did reach out to me to help solve my issue a day after I contacted them, which was great. They asked me for screenshots of my windows audio recording devices and their RECentral software to help sort out problems. It's already been two days and I still haven't received a follow-up response to my e-mail. Am I expecting too much? I don't know. But given that I am on a timer as far as returning my card to amazon is concerned, I needed answers as fast as possible. I decided to take matters into my own hands. The first issue I noticed in Windows was that I was getting no sound whatsoever from RECentral. By default, the Live Gamer HD 2 set my recording device to Line In, which I believe are representative of the analog plugs on the card. After investigating, I noticed the digital audio setting for the Live Gamer HD 2 in devices was disabled, so I had to fool with my recording devices for a bit (enabling and disabling devices). The reason why I had to do this is that Windows wouldn't let me right click the digital device and enable it. I can't perfectly reproduce how I eventually got the digital device to become the default recording device, but I was able to get it to work eventually. Make sure you have that digital device enabled in windows recording devices, otherwise you won't hear any sound coming from your new card! Now for the second infuriating issue. This, as far as I know, isn't related to the card itself, but I have a suspicion that it still is - indirectly. I noticed in my twitch streams that people were hearing a slight echo in my voice and the video capture. I checked high and low inside RECentral and Windows recording devices. Nothing seemed out of place. After sleeping on it, I opened up Streamlabs OBS and started digging into settings in there. Sure enough, at the bottom right hand corner (and I never knew this), I scrolled down to find that there were many more recording options in my list of devices than I had before. Essentially what was going on was that my microphone and stereo mix were duplicated and broadcasting all at the same time. I muted one set of duplicates and boom...problem solved. So if you get this card, make sure you not only check Windows recording devices, but that you also look into your streaming app's settings if you get that annoying echo. I hope this helps! In the end, the $140 I paid for this card at the time seems like a bargain when compared to $200-$300 for the Elgato HD60 Pro. As long as you're willing to work through some technical issues, I see nothing wrong with this card.
