Review: The ALOGIC USB-C Dock Wave is an interesting idea that combines several different devices in one. Firstly, this is a hub for laptops and PCs to provide an extra 2 USB 3.0 ports as well as a USB C passthrough from one USB C port. It also has SD and Micro SD cart slots to allow your laptop to read cards and an HDMI out that can output up to 4K 30fps and can be used to support a second screen. As a hub it works incredibly well, though it's obviously more bulky than the alternatives out there. That's because of the second feature. This is also a powerbank with the ability to wirelessly charge phones or any other QI device, as well as by using USB cables. The device is built well, using plastics that have a metallic look rather than metal, which helps keep it light and easy to carry. It has a really nice fabric top part which helps phones etc stick to the wireless charging base without slipping off. The ports are all very accessible with good spacing between them and there's a battery indicator with 4 LEDs to show how much charge the battery has, plus a wireless light to show if wireless charging is on or not. This is priced a lot higher than many other hubs but with its build quality and extra features, it's worth the extra and saves carrying around 2 or 3 different devices.

Review: This device is disappointing considering it's price. If you have a thunderbolt-3 and PD USB-c port as in the Dell XPS 2-in-1, you might think that this port can power the dock. It can't. There is only one connection that works, kind-of. Power that would normally be used to plug in your laptop, needs to be plugged into the dock's USB-c port, then the dock's fly-lead goes into the laptop's USB-c port. The problem with this connection method is that it consumes the only USB-c port on the dock. If you got the dock to provide USB-c PD pass-through while adding ports, like I did, then you are out of luck because you need that single USB-c port on the dock, to power the device. The one advantage, is that by connecting the dock as above, it frees up the second USB-c port on the laptop, which actually does provide PD throughput which is what I needed. Extra ports and PD available on at least one USB-c port. So...fair enough if everything works? Not really. With power being provided to the laptop through the dock, the laptop now reports 'slow charging'. The wireless charger also only does 'Slow charging' and gets very hot while charging. So if you want to free up a USB-c port on your device, add some other ports, handicap your laptops fast charging and add wireless charging that will very slowly charge your phone, this device is for you. The advertising makes it sound like exactly what you need. It's not.
