Review: I wanted a simple fan oven as a direct replacement of my old simple non fan oven. The delivery was quick but the oven was a little dented as the packaging was damaged. As the dents were invisible once installed and did not affect it's functioning I did not make a complaint. It's important to note that the unit comes with 1 "drip tray" and 1 wire shelf. which is totally inadequate. I had to rescue my old grill pan from the skip and order a second shelf from indesit. This type of penny pinching leaves a bad impression. Installation was fairly easy except the electrical connections were different from my old oven. this is because built in ovens use less current than a full oven with a hob, so this one came with a regular mains plug but I had nowhere under the counter to plug it in I had to put together a junction box to join the two very different cables, I would recommend getting a certified electrician in unless you really know what you are doing, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Once installed it looks good and stylistically fitted into my kitchen decor. however at this point I realised I could not read the dials, they are small font/illustrations printed with very fine lines. The dials are below waist height which means I have to bend down and squint at them from a close distance to make them out. Another triumph for form over function. So I had it ready to run, I set the clock, turned it on at full power and left it for an hour while I read the manual. The oven beeps when it comes on and flashes an icon. Once it reaches temperature the icon stops flashing and it beeps again, simple in theory.,,, I think most people know how to use an oven, there are really only two modes of operation, namely Oven and Grill, with an occasional use of both ("Gratin"). You select a mode and a temperature and get cooking. However Indesit have given us eight modes which sometimes change their name as you go through the manual, most of which are just presets of the main two. the instructions for using the modes are confused and vague, and I will probably never use them for this reason. There is one mode which scares me, it is called "Turn and Cook" where you don't select a temperature, instead your food must be within a certain weight, the weights are to be found in a table in the manual, this however does not tell you how long to cook for and you can't calculate the time as you don't know what temperature it will cook at. So all in all the attempt to simplify cooking has made it an imprecise and complicated process. So I tried grilling some stuff and It worked perfectly. I tried baking some chicken legs, I was not sure which mode to use so I opted for Forced Air, after 50 minutes at 200 Celsius they were sill pink and uncooked. I have tried a number of different modes and oven organisation. and have found I can cook my legs at 220c using the Gratin mode in about 50 minutes, somewhat longer than in my old non-fan oven. I wondered if the thermostat was faulty so I bought a thermometer. I was able to see that although the correct temperature was reached the oven just slowly cooled after that. I have so far never seen the fan come on. I have now had to buy electronic thermometers which I stick into my meat to monitor the cooking process. To sum up, it's great for cheese on toast but not much else.
