Review: First on the plus side, it's light, it chucks out plenty of cool air and it was on offer at £15.99 at time of purchase which is great for a 12 inch desk fan in July 2022. It was ok to put together, takes five minutes but worth mentioning a couple of things 1) The plastic nut that holds the blades in place tightens up the opposite way from what is intuitive but this makes perfect sense if you think about it for a second. Plus it actually has an arrow showing you which way to tighten it on the part itself if you look closely. 2) Noticed a few people in reviews complaining that they did not get tiny metal nut and bolt that secures the blade cover at the bottom. I initially assumed it was missing for me as well but checked everything again one more time and finally spotted them rolling around loose in the bottom of the box. They are so tiny that I don't understand why they weren't in a plastic bag and/or taped to one of the pieces of packaging cardboard, but they were there! The bad news is, the fan feels fairly cheaply constructed for a supposedly reputable brand such as Zanussi and the main downside of this cheap construction is the noise factor. The noise from the rotation of the blades is actually fine (increasing with speed obviously) but when oscillating it makes an overly audible ticking sound from the mechanism (which is still audible although quieter when disengaged). The push/pull button to engage the oscillation function flops about loosely and doesn't inspire confidence when used but worst part is the random creaking and groaning noises generated (usually, in my case, when it reaches the furthest point to the right). Basically the noise of cheap plastic parts creaking and rubbing against each other. It's possible that the cable sleeves grinding against the opening at the top of the base is a factor but can't tell for sure. Tried a couple of drops of lubricant where the cables enter the base but didn't seem to make much difference. Having said all that, it may well be I was particularly unlucky with the fan I got (although from the feel of the construction I'm guessing I'm not alone). Probably a good deal for a workshop or noisier environment if on offer like mine was. Possibly ok to sleep with if not using the oscillating function depending on your tolerance threshold for the audible ticking noise which is still present and seems to increase over time until you turn the fan on and off again?! The creaking noises are not constant but are really annoying when they kick in and I imagine would disturb most people's sleep.
