Review: First and foremost you need to be aware that this is an online Multiplayer FPS - it is made with the intention of online co-op play as a team of 5, against either another 5-player team, or (in the case of Terrorist Hunt mode), non-player bots. If you're familiar with Rainbow Six (either the book or the previous games), you will know that the general premise is that you are part of a counterterrorist unit, made up of operators from various special forces and tactical police units from around the world. Each operator has their own talent / gadget. The point of the game is for a team of 5 to storm a building, and either a) complete an objective (such as defuse a bomb, or rescue a hostage), or b) wipe out the other team The other team are trying to stop you, obviously. In the 45 seconds before the round starts, defenders can fortify by putting up barricades, barbed wire, and other defensive gadgets - meanwhile attackers can send in wheeled remote camera drones to try and get an idea of who and what is where. The game is basically a hardcore, last-man standing, team deathmatch. In other words, once killed, you are dead for the remainder of the round and cannot respawn (although you can watch from a surviving team-mate's point of view, or from the CCTV cameras). Friendly fire cannot be disabled, and reckless offenders of that are not popular. Weapon damage feels higher than the average FPS, and firefights tend to be quickly lethal; though if you manage to escape death to within your last gasp, you are immobilised and bleeding out, and can be revived by a teammate (if they make it to you in time). Rounds are over in a matter of minutes - but this is not run-and-gun. Running gung-ho into the enemy will likely result in the end of the round for you. Emphasis now is on stealth, tactics, and teamwork, and it's probably fair to say that a team of 5 players who are communicating effectively on headsets will generally be at an advantage over 5 individual players. Personally, I find it more exciting knowing that you have "one life", and have to play with more care. Many novice players may get frustrated if they find themselves early "observers" round after round (although you still get a points incentive for sticking around - and you can help your team out). There are some occasional gameplay bugs, such as getting stuck on certain objects or the lips of rooftops (a workaround is to go prone or rappel back). Matchmaking is a lot more reliable than it was in the Beta, although you still get the rare occasion where it seems to take a while for that last player to join (maybe 5% of the time, if that). Hopefully these minor bugs will get fixed quickly. There is no single player story/campaign mode, or offline multiplayer - this is focussed on online play. Many are not happy about this; but it has always been the intention of this title. There is a single-player mode called "Situations", which is ten mini-missions, with a "3 star objectives" format, but while this serves as a reasonable introduction to some of the controls and skills, there is not much longevity in it to consider it much more than a tutorial. You can also play "Terrorist Hunt" in a single player mode. Quick tip for anyone who already has the game and have found the control a tad wayward: try changing the controller settings - the default "dead zone" delay really threw me (it felt completely different even to the Beta released just a few weeks ago). Reduce it to minimum and you might find it better, I certainly have. Altogether, I think this is a brilliant FPS game, but it's completely different from both COD and Battlefield - it's all close quarters, tactical, and hardcore. It's not perfect - there are things that could have been done better. Joining friends is more laborious than it should be; you can't join someone who's already in a match, even if their team isn't full. There's not much in the way of weapon modifications, and what there is can't be fitted/removed other than from the main menu. Another significant downside is that there is not a huge amount of variety to gameplay - even though no two rounds will play out the same, it still boils down to a pretty simple formula, and you do get a sense of repetition. I do wonder if there are more game modes to come; there are pretty large areas of each map having so much detail paid to design, yet completely unused (like the tunnel under the bank, for example) - it would be great if future expansion would maybe change the fight dynamic and use some of these (mostly outdoor) areas. Certainly some good news is that expansion DLC over the next year, including new maps and operators, are to be available to everyone. In other words, you do NOT need the Season Pass (or to pay) for expansions. Overall, despite a little repetition, this is a really addictive and fun game. If you don't want to play multiplayer; simply do not get this game. And you may spend a significant proportion observing while you find your feet - so if you don't consider yourself to be the most patient of players, it may not be for you.

Review: I have played every Rainbow six game since the very first one released in 1998 and have invested 1000's of hours playing Vegas 2 on the Xbox 360 and have loved every minute. When they cancelled Patriots but said they were now releasing Rainbow Six Siege I was overjoyed :o) Most of the hours I invested in Vegas 2 was with Terrorist Hunt. Even now 7 years later you can still find gamers playing Terrorist Hunt. The main reason why gamers love this mode so much is that the matching making was so simple, 1. You could join a game even though it had already started 2.You could setup your own games and start playing them on your own but other people could join your game while the game were still in progress. 3. There was no waiting around in lobbies for gamers to join 4. You could create games, choose your map, difficulty, how many terrorists, respawns 5. You could design your characters clothing and choose the amount of armour they would have 6, You could choose your weapons, design your own guns and include your own special grenades You would think that anyone with half a brain would see how popular this game mode was and recreate it using a very similar design, BUT NO UBISOFT HAVE IGNORED ALL THE COMMENTS IN THEIR FORUMS AND HAVE CREATED A GAME WHICH ONLY APPEALS TO PEOPLE THAT LIKE SITTING IN A DARK ROOM ON THERE OWN WATCHING A BLANK SCREEN FOR 20 MINUTES? I am so frustrated that they have managed to mess up the most basic game design which is the match making. For a company who has designed a game which has NO CAMPAIGN and is solely multiplayer based (unless you like playing Terrorist Hunt solo or Situation) you would think the very first thing they would get right was the multiplayer matching making. NO NO NO this is what they think we like. 1. Wait in a lobby sometimes for 10/20minutes until the magic number of 4 join your team (unless it crashes and takes you back to the home screen), then suprise suprise they want you to visit another gaming lobby were you choose your operator. Surely it would make more sense to just have one lobby, so when you are waiting for other people to join you can at least choose your operator and weapons? 2. They want you to play the maps in their gaming order. Why can't we choose the maps we want to play? They are 11 maps but you won't be able to get good at completing any of them as they are all created randomly when you join a game 3. They want you to only pick the loadouts of the Operators they have created. Most of the games I have played most people just choose the Recruit because they have the best all rounded load out for every situation. Why do I want an operator which has an EMP grenade when I am playing Terrorist Hunt? I want stun grenades, breaching charge, machine gun, so far I can only get this if I go with a basic recruit. Also just to wind you up even more you can't even upgrade the recruits weapons. 4. You can't tailor your games to your own gaming style, perhaps I would like 1 respawn but increase the amount of Terrorists on the map. Instead I am stuck with what UBISOFT think I would like to play. This game could have been great but unless Ubisoft change how we join the games and give us a bit more freedom regarding setting up/searching for games I will be trading this game in. **okay I have now managed to find a way of selecting the maps I would like to play in Terrorist Hunt and Multiplayer 5vs5. Bizarrely its hidden away in the options menu. You can now select the maps and modes you don't want to participate in. However by doing this you will be waiting a lot longer in the lobby waiting for the server searching for the games you want to play and they are still random. More worrying is that I was playing "Situations" and half way through my game Ubisoft servers went down, however this does not effect Situations and I completed a few tasks with maximum renown points. Little did I know that if your not connected to the servers you DON'T receive any renown. So I wasted an hour and I'll have to complete all the situations again. I have being playing the game for quite a few hours now and have put a lot of renown points in to a particular operator, I have a decent gun with sites, a silencer and I have upgraded a few gadgets, but guess what? if someone picks the same operator in the load out screen you can't use yours. This means everyone is doing a mad rush trying to pick the best operators before the game starts. WHY WHY UBISOFT HAVE YOU MADE THIS GAME SO DIFFICULT TO PLAY. I have even noticed players exit the game when their operator has been taken by a different player. **Conclusion** I really want to like this game. It still has the tactical team based element I love, however there are a couple of major issues which completely ruin the game. Out of perhaps an hour gaming you will only actually be physically playing the game for approx 15 minutes. The rest of the time you are either stuck in lobbies waiting for the games to start or you have died and you are waiting for games to finish. I don't understand why Ubisoft could not of implemented a mode that when you die you could still help your team mates by perhaps being teleported to a helicopter so you have an aerial few of the map and using thermal imaging binoculars to pin point the terrorists last location or have access to drones to try and help. Obviously most gamers we leave games if they are having to wait sometimes over 10 minutes until the game finishes. Which means after the game eventually finishes you are taken back to the lobby screen to search for new players to join your squad. This happens at the end of every game. There is just so much down time between each battle it starts to get very boring. Choosing Operators is also a very shallow affair, there are only a hand full of upgrades you can do for each gun, and bizarrely most guns have the same upgrade options? In under 3 hours I had enough renown to buy all the Operators I wanted to play and fully upgrade all their weapons. UBISOFT WHERE ARE ALL THE CUSTOMISATION OPTIONS YOU PROMISED? As Ubisoft created a game with NO CAMPAIGN I would have thought they would have been a lot more modes, gaming and character customisation options. Instead I feel they have stripped away everything that was good from their previous games and have actually launched a game with less content but still charging full price. I score this game 4/10 and advise not to purchase this game unless Ubisoft hopefully add some DLC to help with match making and customisation options or buy the game when its reduced to £20.00.
