Review: Firstly, as far as smart devises go these are very simply to set up. I'm forgetful and also don't have particular set/structured days so I like that I can control these from anywhere with the app. If I suddenly have a panic mid morning or brain fart when I've got into bed I can check via the app that everything is turned off. These can be used by a physical switch on them, via the app which also has time & routine functions or by alexa (I think google too?). I have 4 at the moment but will get 2 more for the Christmas lights as they are much better than standard timers due to the flexibility. At the moment I have 1 for my daughters electric blanket that I can turn on 15 minutes before she goes to bed and its on automatic timer on for half an hour, this gives me peace of mind that I don't have to remember to turn it off but can check from anywhere if i need to. 1 for an oil filled radiator in her room that if it's not cold enough to warrant putting on the heating for the whole house I put it on for 20 mins before she gets up just to take the chill off when she gets dressed as hers is the coldest room. 1 in my room for a small oil filled radiator just to take the chill off if I'm late going to bed but again I don't need to heat the whole house, I'll pop it on from downstairs for 15 minutes before I go up. The last one is in the lounge and controls a socket thats awkward to get to but has a couple of lamps & extension lead plugged in, if I'm late back or away it's useful being able to turn the lights on & off for security (I have other smart bulbs too) or just generally not having to faff getting to the lamp switches. Only draw back as with all 'smart' appliances is when your router goes down, no WiFi = no remote controlling them so you have to do things the old fashioned way by getting up to turn things on and off! Even worse is if for some reason the router boots everything off or you change the password you have to go round and reconnect everything, it's amazing how much stuff in your home is actully connected to the wifi! All in all, I thought these were going to be gimmicky when I got them, I only wanted 1 but got the 4 pack because they were half price. They were definitely a good purchase, I wouldn't say I couldn't live without but they have definitely made life easier and I'd miss not having them.

Review: To use the plugs, one must install the Topo app. It is only when one installs the app that one comes across its privacy policy, which is intrusive and impossible to accept. Following are highlights of the policy: TP-Link will collect information about the devices connected to the plugs (Point 2.3). They may collect IP address, location, mobile device information, user name, email address, shipping address, log-in and password details [!!], communications via phone calls, e-mail, social media, … the list is extensive and alarming (Point 4). Not only will TP-Link be allowed to use such information itself, it is also allowed to transfer such information to third parties (Point 5.2). Furthermore, customer information may be transferred to parties that may acquire TP-Link in the future (Point 5.4). One buys a wifi-enabled plug to connect to one’s devices to power supply remotely. It must be able to manufacture plugs that do just that without requiring an app to set up. More importantly, there is no reason for the plug to collect so much information from its customers. There is even less justification for them to pass our personal information to third parties. Whether or how they may be able to collect such information is secondary. I cannot grant them permission to do so. Therefore I intend to return the product.
