Review: Lets start by saying this review is not for network experts - it's for computing enthusiasts. If you only want to add a few more ethernet ports to your router with minimum effort this product may not be for you, there are basic unmanaged switches for less than half the price, if your an expert then you can download the manual from tplink website and decide for your self. If you want to learn about computer networking, set up virtual subnets, test your ethernet wiring, or just like tinkering and have covered all the basic features on your routers web interface and want to try something more advanced and functionally richer you will probably like this switch. What you must know fist though is by default the switch can only be configured by console serial port (cable included) for which you need hyperterminal software and a serial port. It only takes a minute to enable the web and ssh interface after which you might never use the serial console again. If you dont have a serial port on your computer then I think you can buy a cheap usb to serial adaptor.

Review: SUMMARY: I know this is a switch I bought for less than £130 but I did expect it to be more stable than it is. CONS:I have had this switch for over a month now and it keeps crashing a dropping packets. I have updated to the latest firmware (December 2012) but I am still experiencing problems with anything more than light use. Web interface also seems to lose the CSS style sheets and drops the web theme. Cycling the power seems to fix the problems. Also I have experienced problems with LAG and teamed NICs. The manual states that you can assign LAG names but the fields are not writeable in any browser, also the CLI does not seem to support this function either. I am patiently waiting for another firmware update to see if these problems are addressed. PROS: Nicely packaged switch with good accessories and rack ears. 5 year warranty. Think carefully before buying this hardware as it may not be ready for production.
