Review: TomTom only make excellent quality product, the antitheft addition is brilliant bit of design kit, remember, back in the day before Google maps etc, Garmin and TomTom were your go to satnav, now Garmin have or are moving away from Motorcycle Satnav to more sport satnav, like watches and other products, where TomTom have stayed with Motorcycle Satnav and have TomTom live, Bluetooth from your phone, brilliant product

Review: Have used TomTom for years and rely heavily on my in-car system for live traffic and safety cameras etc. After prevaricating about investing in a unit for my bike (vs using the phone, a 3rd party mount and an app like Waze etc) I have opted for this Rider 500 primarily for ease of mounting it to the bike and the fact that I mistakenly thought it has live traffic and cameras via a built in SIM card. IT DOES NOT. You need to connect it to a phone and use its' data. I have maybe missed this somewhere in the small print and on double checking with TomTom directly, this is indeed the case; a rider unit is not currently available with a built in SIM card. I may be being thick here but have found it difficult to pin this down either on Amazon or the TomTom website. At double the cost of an in-car unit this is very disappointing indeed. Now need to figure out if I can connect the unit to the phone and my helmet headset and that all the bluetooth connections will work. Honestly would not have invested the best part of £350 (including the anti theft mount) had I known. For the rest it works as it should, the mapping is as you would expect and it reroutes itself very quickly. It's appears to be very sturdy. Haven't checked the waterproof aspect so far. The fitting kit is easy to install and you can point the thing in just about any direction / orientation. I like the quick access function on the screen for volume and brightness that I don't have on the car unit. Wanted to get this off my chest now as I finished the call with TomTom. Honestly don't know whether to keep it or not vs spending £50 on a waterproof case and mount. This is really poor TomTom!
