Review: This machine was a replacement for a fairly middle of the road pumped John Lewis model that served very well, just wasn't very well matched to my kitchen - this was bought as a bit of a punt on the looks, it's at the lower end of the price bracket for similar machines - a lot cheaper than the many Delonghis I've killed now. It really lives up to the product photos for a start, which is pleasing given that's the hook - there is one serious oversight on the looks, amongst the black gloss, gold and chrome is an eyesore of a drip tray cover - it's a dull brushed aluminium, which is a break from everything else on the machine, most machines opt for chrome or polished stainless but here we are. A quick sand with 600 grit and a spray of black gloss solves that though - not a major issue but when visuals are half the point it seems wrong. The features are pretty as expected, reasonable water tank size, a couple of baskets and steam controlled in a similar style to most machines. Heat up time is fast and the thermometer seems to be pretty honest, I wouldn't say it's exact but certainly works as intended. Steam heat up is a little slower but not by much. The pumping and general quality of the espresso is good, very similar to a lot of the machines out there, give or take adjusting to the minor variations between them. I would take care with grind choices, it's clear overpressure is hard on this machine, which is par for the course. The nozzle height is middle of the road for this style of machine in terms of cups/jugs that'll fit, though the steam wand is set up a little more conveniently than many with a bulkier plastic cover, granted my usage means height from the counter is irrelevant. Overall I'm very impressed with the machine, it's been with me for some time making 4-8 coffees a day happily and continues to look the part and perform well.

Review: UPDATE: well that went wrong fast. After 15 coffees the first machine lost pressure. We did all the usual things for cleaning the steam wand etc. but with no joy. Amazon did a brilliant job replacing the machine (the replacement arrived the next day and the return was a nice simple scan a QR code job at the post office). The second machine started strong again, again made it to 15/20 ish coffees then lost all pressure again. I’ll Be contacting Amazon to sort out a return, I don’t know whether to risk another one of these as despite the lovely design there is clearly an issue somewhere with the hardware. I would say avoid this batch, but in future if they sort the issue I’d try again. ORIGINAL REVIEW: We’ve had a few machines over the years, from more expensive to lowest budget basement. From Nespresso machines, filter coffee machines and various espresso machines like this. First things first, the people on other reviews for machines in this range saying no water came through, there is a very good reason: remove. the. plug. It’s bright orange and not easy to miss if you have enough about you to safely operate a coffee machine. If you remove all the packaging and take the water tank off to wash it before use, you should spot it no problem. With lavaza super crema beans this makes a lovely espresso which goes nicely on its own or as a cappuccino. The milk steamer is adequate though for best results steam one serving at a time. Not going to lie it would be nice if it could effortlessly steam a pint at a time but for a £100 machine it honestly performs better than it has any right to. At the moment, no complaints. I’m a simple woman, good coffee keeps me happy, bad coffee makes me rage. I’ll update the review if anything changes with the machine.
