Description: Connect your DVI Dual Link display to a Display Port video source for high resolution applications

The DP2DVID2 Display Port to DVI (Dual-Link) Adapter actively converts the output signal from a Display Port video source for use with a DVI-D display (monitor etc.) or projector helping to eliminate the equipment costs of upgrading a DVI display to a newer model for the sake of compatibility.

The adapter supports high resolution video (up to 2560x 1600 at 60 Hz) maintaining the outstanding graphical performance from a Display Port-equipped desktop video card laptop or Mac Book.

DP2DVID2 performs an active Display Port-DVI conversion that is suitable for video sources that output either multimode (DP++) or single-mode Display Port signals. Review: It's not cheap, but is of solid metal construction and does exactly what I needed it to. I recently upgraded my graphics card from Nvidia 1070 to Nvidia 3070 and didn't realise it would not come without a DVI port (it has x3 Display Port and x2 HDMI, which is fair enough). I then realised that my Acer GN246HL 144Hz monitor does not support anything over 60Hz via HDMI (yes impressive, thanks Acer for throwing that curve ball), and it has no other suitable connectors. I was about to give in and buy a new monitor (with HDMI 2.1 or Display Port), but then found this adapter. I have to say I didn't really expect it to work, but it does and very well. No issues with quality and the response time is a perfect 144Hz. At some point I might upgrade to a 1440p monitor, but it's not something I really wanted to do just now. I would note that this product appears discontinued from StarTech, so if you want one I would recommed you pick one up fast!

Review: At first I was impressed with the product, it did actually convert the display port output from the graphics card to 2560x1600 @ 60Hz dual-link-DVI to use with my 30" Apple Cinema display. The image quality was crisp and the colours were sharp. But joy was short lived..... As other reviewers noted, occasionally the screen would intermittently blank out (lost sync) for 2 to 3 seconds before recovering, this was working with desktop / productivity apps. I also tried playing a few games. Again occasionally (once every 30/40 minutes) the screen would blank out. A few times I also experienced some a strange tearing/corruption vertically down both sides of the monitor. I also have a Mac on which I'm using the Apple DisplayPort to Dual-DVI adapter, so I had a go using that with the Windows PC, and tried using the StarTech adapter on the Mac. The PC performed perfectly with the Apple adapter, no matter what I did. The Mac with the StarTech adapter however, was a different story... The Apple logo and advancing progress bar were on screen during the boot process, but it just hung towards the end and no desktop appeared. When I connected a 2nd monitor to the mac, I could finally get into OS-X but the Cinema Display via the StarTech adapter was not detected/shown by OS-X under Preferences > Displays. I tried to put up with these issues, but in the end, I just gave up on this adapter and tracked down another Apple adapter to use on the PC. Despite them no longer being in production, you can find them if you search around on the internet. The one I got was brand-new, boxed and un-used... it was also cheaper than this StarTech item. I have not had a single issue with in over a weeks use. So, don't ignore the bad reviews like I did. Save yourself the hassle and track down the Apple version of this adapter (don't forget you'll probably need a DisplayPort (male) -> Mini DisplayPort (female) adapter too!) For reference, the label on the StarTech device I got reads: DP2DVID2, Rev: A3-3.1 FW:2.19, 2052 Disappointing really. All the previous StarTech items I have purchased have been great and worked perfectly; which is why I gave this a go, despite the warnings from other reviewers.
