Review: Not an expert, so this is a review for amateurs. Never used a 50mm lens before, but saw recommendations for a 50mm lens as being good for portraits and also generally very flexible. This particular lens was recommended as being great quality for the price. Have really enjoyed using this, and results for portrait-type shots have been great. Much, much better than the kit lens the camera came with - results look much more "pro" with lovely undistorted subjects and blurry backgrounds. Only thing to bare in mind if you've not used a lens like this before is that there is no zoom - with this kind of lens you need to physically move in order to get the shot you want, which is actually kind of nice once you get used to it. This seems really good value for the quality, very happy with it, and have had no trouble using it even as a complete amateur and very occasional photographer. Genuinely looking forward to using it again.

Review: I actually bought this lens to compare with the 55mm which is more than 4x the price. The image quality is superb for the price. You cannot fault it. What I can fault is the abysmally slow autofocus. Which will cause you to miss focus on 99% of your photos unless you're photographing a statue. If anything in the frame moves the slow DC motor will struggle to focus on your subject. For this reason only I returned it.
