Review: It’s actually a really cool concept. I have a 2nd generation Smarter kettle which was a pain to connect to wifi so I was worried this would be the same... to my surprise this installed and worked first try. Here are the good points and bad points I’ve noticed after day one Good points -Relatively inexpensive (currently on Sale) -Easy setup -Good image quality -Not overly noticeable when attached to the fridge door -Barcode scanner works really well (On items made or sold by Tesco’s... it won’t work on other supermarkets own brands - but items can be added manually as well) -Expiry dates can be added very easily once an item has been scanned -Tracker is simple to use - just select the item after scanning and draw a small box over it in the image, when the item is removed the app will add it to your shopping list (I can’t verify how accurate this feature is yet) -charging cable and extra 3m sticky pads in the box Bad points -Only 1 button which is a Pin hole (requires SIM card extractor tool tool to use every time) - The flash doesn’t turn on when “calibrating” - so it can be hard to see if you’re setting up a good angle - My Smarter 2.0 kettle and Smarter FridgeCam require 2 different Apps to run (Smarter seem to think a whole new app is needed for every generation) -can’t take an image remotely -VERY POOR wifi connection - you’re not going to get a good signal inside an airtight metal box. That being said, the device appears to work regardless of wifi connection - as soon as a connection is established the photo(s) are uploaded. In addition, smarter are currently running an in app promotion for a FREE wifi signal booster for all FridgeCam owners... that’s kinda neat. I can’t comment on other features just yet as I’ve only had this 1 day, but if i remember I’ll update this comment in the future with; -battery life -connectivity -tracker functionality -whether it’s been a novelty or new necessity and -Any other good/bad points Update (1 week on) Wifi repeater has arrived in the post, it’s helped a little but not much in the way of connectivity (the camera is still inside and airtight metal box regardless). Regardless, the device works flawlessly every time you open and close the fridge, even with no network connection. Photos seem to get stored and uploaded once a connections established (ie. with the fridge open 15seconds or so). I was quite impressed with that offline feature. The tracker function is very basic, changing the location of the item you want to track in the fridge fools the system, so for it to work you must keep that item in the same location every time, for a single person living alone that’s not a big deal but with a large family I can imagine it being an issue. Interestingly, if the item is found to be missing it’s automatically added to my shopping list in the app, that’s neat. If the item is “found” again it’s removed from the shopping list... definitely a bit of thoughts went into this, I like it. Honestly, this device has been working a lot better than I had expected it to after reading all the other comments. Not once has it failed to take a photo, every photo is crisp and clear. I’m increasing my review from 3/5 to 4/5 stars. The device is definitely more novelty than practical, but at £12 on sale I found it to be very very good value for money. That being said, if I spent the RRP I probably would’ve sent it back already, I couldn’t justify that cost. My biggest vice is still the lack of backwards support on the latest apps for previous smarter devices
