Review: After weeks and weeks of testing all sorts of headphones, microphones and headsets, and having finally given up on the Sennheiser 598SR and Blue Yeti Blackout combo (as the room and house simply do not lend themselves to the sensitivity of the microphone, even at its lowest gain), I stumbled across these. I really do mean stumbled too; up until this morning these didn't even show if you searched for Sennheiser Headset for some reason (it is now fixed). I'm glad I found them. All of the hassle of trying to marry a decent pair of headphones with an equally comparable mic disappeared was ALMOST worth it once I put these on. Night and day improvements over the GAME ONE in terms of sound quality and bass (Disclaimer: I'm not by any means an audiophile), and I found it impossible to tell a real difference between the 598SRs and these, but your mileage may vary. Even the microphone has been given a solid refinement over the GAME ONE. It isn't all 5* though. The design is awkward, and comfort is an issue. I felt exceptional pressure at the bottom of my ears where it seemed the headset was trying to grab my head as tight as it could in a pincer style. I have made some adjustments which has relieved that clamping pressure somewhat, but it is still there. Perhaps it is something I will grow accustomed to; I guess time will tell. My only other gripe was that the - separate - cable was not working fully, as only the left audio channel was working. Plugging the same cable into the GAME ONEs exhibited the same problem, whereas using the GAME ONE cable (which has the same connections, should anyone be interested) which was known to be good brought both the audio channels online. Certainly not something I've ever had in a new headset, and not something I'm particular happy about given that these were £200 at the time of purchase. Still, as ever, Amazon will rectify the issue by sending out a full replacement (even though its just the cable). In summary, the Sennheiser GSP500 is for me the best headset out there right now. The improvements over the GAME ONE are night and day, and sound quality in general is on a different level to anything else I've been testing over the last weeks. The comfort really is an issue that is going to sit firmly in the realm of personal preference; for some it will be fine, for others it will almost certainly be a deal breaker. Is it worth the £200 price tag? Well, for anyone that is fed up with trying to get a reasonable headphone / mic combo to work in their environment, it is well worth a look.

Review: Maybe I am spoiled by having much better speakers and headphones to compare these to, but from a brand like Sennheiser you simply expect better than this. I wanted to get a headset for convenience and thought Sennheiser would be a reliable brand, but these are a real let down, even getting them on sale. They just don't give you good sound, flat out. I honestly thought something must be wrong with them, or with my sound settings, but no. After hours of messing about, I reluctantly admitted that they just sound rubbish, and my money would have been better spent elsewhere. It's like listening to a low quality MP3; the highs are airy but have no definition, the bass is overblown, the mids are muddy. It sounds okay for music but in games you notice there's just no clarity. Everything is muffled. I have had several pairs of the much cheaper HD201s Sennheiser make, and the sound quality is leagues better on those. I honestly don't know how they managed to make a headset that sounds worse than their most basic pair of budget headphones.
