Review: I have bought several Samsung SSDs in the past both SATA and M2 Nvme. Some of these are quite elderly now but none of them has failed and all have produced the speed/performance on the ticket. This particular drive was purchased to replace a failed ssd in an HP Envy 13 laptop which is about three years old. As the old drive was completely goosed and I could not recover anything from it, I required a fresh install of Windows then reload various programs and restore data which was safely backed up. Mention also to HP's support site which when you enter the model number will scan your PC and produce a tailored list of required drivers, etc. Rebuilding was easily done on a Sunday morning and the laptop is running, if anything, better than new with the Samsung having superior read/write speeds to the old unit. Samsung is a little more expensive than other brands but in my experience these are the best units you can buy for longevity and performance.

Review: I ordered this with the advice that it was on a 3 day turnaround for delivery and most surprisingly it turned up the following morning. I purchased it to replace my old 1Tb mechanical OS drive. As the original drive had a Windows 10 installation that weighs in at 265Gb with various apps and wotnot, and was taking upwards of 2 minutes to boot, I wanted something that would give me room for expansion and faster loading times. My motherboard is a slightly older model that supports M.2 nve drives and it took a bit of fiddling to work out which slot the drive was supposed to be fitted in but after about an hour and half of messing about and playing with the BIOS settings, I had it installed, and was already using the Samsung Magician software to update the firmware and install the drivers for the SSD and start the migration process. Moving the OS to the new drive was a piece of cake. Once finished I just changed the boot order and restarted from the new SSD. Boot times were infinitely better than the mechanical HDD; around 25 seconds (to be expected) and this far I am more than satisfied with the performance. It's possible to tweak the performance further via the Samsung Magician software but you do so at the expense of storage space (cautious estimates are around 10% space loss). Whilst I'm knowledgeable about such things, I'm not going to put things like read write speeds and all the other IT mumbo jumbo that bamboozles the common man and gets the geeks hard. Suffice to say, this is a good, affordable drive packed with a decent warranty, easy to fit and transfer data from a big name manufacturer.
