Review: There are plenty of 'smart lamp' options around some of which work with the Philips Hue system and some that are more generic and I have a few. However, for ease of use, integration and reliability, no-one comes close to Philips Hue. First off, this is a very well made bit of kit. It feels quality and it is quality - which, it should be given that it's not the cheapest item out there. Secondly, it just works. Out of the box, screw in and then add it to your Hue gateway hub. Takes seconds and is utterly reliable. Now, the one thing that I didn't notice at first is that you can use this without a hub and simply connect via Bluetooth from your phone. For me that's not an issue as I already have the hub (well three to be honest) and use the full range of options. However, if you just want a couple of lamps to be operable from your phone then this works well. The light quality is excellent and of course can be adjusted to suit easily either in real time or set up for a particular routine. As for looks? Well, this is perhaps the downside of the Philips lamps. Mostly they don't have the kind of 'designer' look that is suitable for bare bulb implementation. Nope, these lamps need to be in a shade for sure. Overall, there is no better smart lighting system on the market.

Review: These bulbs may well be fine working with the Philips app but I wanted them to work with my Alexa and it’s routines, they do not. It takes Alexa ages to find and is a pain, they continually disconnect or become un-responsive in the Alexa app. Avoid and buy better cheaper alternatives if you want to use Alexa. I have now bought alternatives as I’m sick of trying to re add into the Alexa app.
