Review: I bought the Olympus 8x40 S binos for general purpose, good weather use, such as garden birds, air shows, seaviews, taking on shorter walks etc. I already have a pair of decent 10x21 compact travel binos, but wanted good optics AND light gathering capability for a resonable price. They apparently aren't waterproof, so probably not optimum for 'all-weather' winter birding, & during cold weather if used outside & then brought inside, may be prone to condensation - if not handled correctly to avoid this. These binos have a really bright field of view, & appear very sharp; also being porro prism, have a good 3-D image effect. Very impressed. As expected the optical sharpness tails off a bit towards the edge of the field, but this is no problem at all. Focus is very easy, with the smooth action adjustment barrel being approx 2 fingers long. I have a reasonably narrow inter-pupillary distance (~62mm), but these binos (60-70mm) are fine for me, with some adjustment to spare. The eyepiece lenses are approx 18-19mm in diameter, and I have actually used the binos as an impromptu telephoto lens for my mobile phone. The dioptre adjustment eyepiece could possibly do with being slightly stiffer, but not a big issue at all. They're not exactly lightweight, but actually don't feel too heavy, and are easy to hold. The binos strap provided is about 12mm wide, and I may purchase a wider strap for using for extended periods.

Review: These are good value. They are good quality at a good price. They are comfortable to hold and the lens are good. Just to point out that with these binoculars if you wear glasses (as I do) then you need to fold back the rubber eye cups. The eye cups seem to be made of good quality rubber or silicone and it is easy enough to fold them back.
