Description: The Kingston Iron Key Keypad 200 series are OS-independent hardware-encrypted USB Type-A and USB Type-C* drives with an alphanumeric keypad for easy-to-use PIN access. The KP200 incorporates XTS-AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption. It is also FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending) certified for military-grade security with enhancements that further elevate the bar for data protection. Its circuitry is covered by a layer of special epoxy that makes it virtually impossible to remove components without damaging them; this tough epoxy stops attacks against the semiconductor components. The drive is designed to be tamper evident to alert owners. It also incorporates brute force password attack protection and Bad USB protection with digitally signed firmware. The alphanumeric keypad is coated with a layer of polymer that protects the keys and hides key usage through analysis of fingerprints on the keys. The KP200 series utilises a built-in rechargeable battery that can be used to unlock the drive first without using any software and then plug it into any device that supports USB Type-A or USB Type-C mass storage device. This gives users the most flexibility across different platform types and operating systems. With the Multi-PIN option (Admin/User) the keypad can be used to set up an easy-to-remember but hard-to guess alphanumeric PIN for the Admin or User accounts. Admin can restore a User PIN and provide access to the drive should the User PIN be forgotten or if the drive is locked after reaching the maximum of 10 User login attempts. With both Admin and User PI Ns enabled KP200 will lock the User PIN after 10 failed login attempts; if the Admin PIN is entered incorrectly 10 times in a row brute force attack protection will crypto-erase the drive destroy the data forever and reset it. The drive also provides two levels of Read-Only (or Write-Protect) modes a Global mode that can be set by Admin and a session-only mode that can be set by User. Read-Only modes can protect the drive from malware on untrusted systems. In addition Admin can load content and set Global Read-Only mode so that User can access the data but not make any changes. KP200C offers fast dual channel performance on drives with 64GB-512GB capacities. FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (Pending) certified. KP200 now meets the new FIPS 140-3 Level 3 military-grade security specifications published by NIST. This is an enhanced version of the FIPS 140-2 specifications that further enhances the drives security capabilities and tamper resistance. It includes XTS-AES 256-bit encryption along with brute force and [ Bad USB] attack protection with digitally signed firmware. Its circuitry is covered by a layer of special epoxy that makes it virtually impossible to remove components without damaging them; this tough epoxy stops attacks against the semiconductor components. OS and device independent. With KP200 utilising a rechargeable battery the keypad can be used to unlock the drive without using any software then plug it into any system that supports USB Type-A or USB Type-C mass storage device. This gives users the most flexibility across different platform types and operating systems. Multi-PIN option. Users have the option to set up a User or an Admin/User mode. Admin can be used to restore a User PIN and provide access to the drive should User PIN be forgotten or if the drive is locked after reaching the maximum of 10 User login attempts. Global and Session Read-Only (write protect) modes. Both Admin and User can set a session-based Read-Only mode to protect the drive from malware on untrusted systems. Admin can also set a Global Read-Only mode that sets the drive in Read-Only mode until reset. Review: A lot of "encryption" thumb drives out there offer nothing more than a mechanism that prevents the USB from engaging on the host system and once the code is entered it allows it. Problem is...its incredibly easy to get around those type of drives with a very simple google search or youtube video. If you want something that actually encrypts data you need something like this. It encrypts the actual data on the drive itself. So anyone trying to bypass it or using nand reading will have no luck without the unlock keys. With that being said though this is not without its faults though. It also is overly complex to get it to work and is very finnicky with connections and unlocking. Pros: -True real drive & software encryption -Information is irretrievable without unlock codes -Well made in a nice housing and cover -Affordable (compared to other real encryption drives) Cons: -Is finnicky and sometimes requires multiple code entries -Keypad is mushy and doesn't always register presses -Cover does not stay on well and falls off a lot in my pocket and case All in all this does exactly what you want it to do. Which is to make any information you have on it unreadable by anyone else out there but you. It accomplishes this well and outside some minimal quirks is probably the best encrypted thumb drive you can get

Review: Review of Kingston Ironkey Keypad 200 64GB Encrypted USB I am a long-time user of IronKey and still have one of the old drives that is still in use after more years than I care to admit. Based upon the product name or title I expected to receive a 64GB encrypted flash drive only to see that this is misleading if not worse and there are several memory “options” and what I received was only 16GB. Rating reduced for this. A 16GB drive would not have bothered me had this been correctly advertised/described. It is a weird thing to first have to charge a flash drive before initial use but that is required in order to utilize the keypad and read the LED communications from the device when doing something. An owner really needs to go to the manufacturer’s website and download the user manual. This type of encrypted drive requires understanding the various LED on the basis of color, color combination and flash v. solid in order to set this up. On the Kingston website this is the IronKey Keypad 200. Note that once unlocked this flash drive must be connected to a powered USB port within 30 seconds or the device will automatically lock. Initial setup: 1. Charge device. HINT: Check the power settings for the computer’s USB port in Device Manager as the power may be turned off or turns off. 2. After charging must first establish a user PIN using the specified sequence and communications from device via LED. 3. Must re-enter PIN to confirm. 4. User PIN now established. 5. Optional but recommended: Establish Administrator PIN similar in steps above noting that the user PIN will be wiped once the Admin PIN is established. This can be done at any time but requires being unlocked first. 6. Once unlocked, and within 30 seconds, connect the device to a powered USB port. 7. Must format the drive based upon your OS and planned use with other devices. I suggest exFAT. 8. Can now use as a normal flash drive. 9. I ran and posted read/write information from CrystalDisk Mark 8 in a USB 3.2, Gen. 2 port. 10. To Lock: To be safe I suggest using Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media to safely remove and preclude data loss although simply removing the drive does this as well. Additional Notes: FIPS 140-3 certification is not yet approved (not sure that any device has been approved under this new standard). Unlike the original IronKey these devices do not have a self-destruct mechanism and are supposed to only delete the encryption key, all stored PINs and saved data. I did not find any discussion on the manufacturer’s website about the possibility of disassembly to access old data which was impossible on the old IronKeys. However, the data wipe or reset is triggered by incorrectly entering the wrong administrative password/PIN 10 consecutive times or same for user PIN if an administrative PIN is not established. I am not going to destroy the drive to test any of this. If configured with administrator controls, individual users can be given their own PIN and access level (read-only or read/write). The user is not named and is identified by the PIN/password that is entered. Incorrectly entering a user PIN 10 consecutive times deletes that PIN and the administrator must create a replacement although data is not deleted. Something else that I miss from the original IronKeys is the password manager which allowed for fully off-line password generation, storage and use. Much more secure than online password managers that can and have been breached. Although disabled by default a timeout lock can be enabled and disabled both by users and by an administrator. However, the administrator timeout settings overwrite those set earlier by individual users. In addition to the wear and tear of the memory and drive internals common to all flash drives this flash drive does have some possible or eventual additional failure points: • The operation of this device requires that the battery have some charge and batteries eventually fail. • The keypad may eventually wear out or fail although I would expect the battery to go first.

KP200 incorporates XTS-AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption. It also incorporates brute force password attack protection, and Bad USB protection with digitally signed firmware. The alphanumeric keypad is coated with a layer of polymer that protects the keys and hides key usage through analysis of fingerprints on the keys. KP200 utilises a built-in rechargeable battery that can be used to unlock the drive first without using any software, and then plug it into any device that supports a USB type A mass storage device. This gives users the most flexibility across different platform types and operating systems. With Multi-PIN option (Admin/User), the keypad can be used to set up an easy-to-remember but hard-to guess alphanumeric PIN for Admin or User. Admin can restore a User PIN and provide access to the drive should the User PIN be forgotten, or if the drive is locked after reaching the maximum of 10 User login attempts. With both Admin and User PI Ns enabled, KP200 will lock the User PIN after 10 failed login attempts; if the Admin PIN is entered incorrectly 10 times in a row, brute force attack protection will crypto-erase the drive, destroy the data forever, and reset it. The drive also provides two levels of Read-Only (or Write-Protect) modes – a Global mode that can be set by Admin, and a session-only mode that can be set by User. Read-Only modes can protect the drive from malware on untrusted systems. In addition, Admin can load content and set Global Read-Only mode, so that User can access the data but not make any changes. FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending) certified OS/device independent Multi-PIN (Admin and User) option Global or Session Read-Only option FIPS 140-3 Level 3 (pending) certified KP200 now meets the new FIPS 140-3 Level 3 military-grade security specifications published by NIST. This is an enhanced version of the FIPS 140-2 specifications that further enhances the drive’s security capabilities and tamper resistance. It includes XTS-AES 256-bit encryption along with brute force and Bad USB attack protection with digitally signed firmware. Its circuitry is covered by a layer of special epoxy that makes it virtually impossible to remove components without damaging them; this tough epoxy stops attacks against the semiconductor components. Global and Session Read-Only (write protect) modes Both Admin and User can set a session-based Read-Only mode to protect the drive from malware on untrusted systems. Admin can also set a Global Read-Only mode that sets the drive in Read-Only mode until reset.
