Review: The quality of the ink and the consequent printing is fine but I'm knocking three stars off the overall rating because of the cynical way HP screws its customers on the cost - and it would have been four off if the other two categories had been less than five stars each. HP sell their printers cheap (and I got a rebate of £60 when I bought my latest) but recoup their 'loss' by inflating the price of the ink which the unwitting - I am almost tempted to write witless, because that is what I feel I have been - customer must then buy. I have an A3 Epson printer which was also a very good price (with no incentive discount), and also a very small 'travelling' printer, and their inks are very reasonably priced. Of course, an ink cartridge is a very sophisticated bit of kit, made to extremely fine tolerances, but in the quantities which are made and sold that is really no excuse - the technology has been around for years, and there is no substantive advantage in the version made by HP, especially since they go out of their way to block the use of cartridges made by cheaper manufacturers. Since my new printer is somewhat unsatisfactory in other ways, which will be the subject of a separate review, and frankly not a patch on its predecessor (whose printhead failed after years of service but would have been too expensive to replace in a rather old printer, which is why I went for a new one), I shall not be buying HP again, but will revert to Epson for future purchases.
