Review: With the fuel prices, the way they are at the moment… I can say with all honesty these could’ve been even more expensive and you will still get a return on investment in a matter of months not years. They truly are a fantastic piece of kit. I did a lot of research on them before buying them and have discovered many more attributes since installing them. Some of my favourite features are the algorithms that each one creates which is specific to your room and includes airflow, leaving the door open radiator covers and a whole multitude of things. They actually go into learning mode for the first couple of weeks of owning them, and therefore you may almost think that they are not working because they are not delivering enough heat and yet that is part of the learning process after which they are so accurate that you will save a fortune on your bills. It really is worth reading. All of the frequently asked questions on the hive website after you have bought them Because they offer a wealth of information but I have to say they are easy to install. The app is intuitive and has fantastic instructions and these are a first class addition to my smart home. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend them to you.

Review: OK first things first. A few years back I installed the Hive heating to have remote control over my heating and hot water, as well as some lights. When I heard about the Hive TRV's I wanted them as I wanted more micro management of each room. In other words if a room got to temperature I wanted that rad turn off thus saving on gas or oil, whichever you're using to heat the home, especially in today's times. The Hive TRV's are mechanically easy to instal but the downfall is the software. Now I have figured a way to get the TRV's to calibrate easily which I'll outline below. Its best to do this when the weather is cooler, and the temps in the rooms are cooler. After you have paired your TRV with your app and its showing up then this is what I did. 1, Set a 'schedule' on the TRV that you want to calibrate for about 4hrs and set the temp high, e.g. 22deg 2, Do the same schedule on your thermostat with the exact same time but with a lower temp set to about 21 deg but make sure the temp of the room at the start of the calibration is well below the target temp, at least 4deg below . 3, When the schedule kicks in and rad heats up then open up the TRV for the above room in your app and start the 'Calibrate Now'. 4, This can take a while but on average it took mine about 2-3hrs to calibrate. Once a room/TRV is calibrated you'll see the cut out at the bottom of the blue circle in the app, See photos attached. I do like the Hive system but their TRV's are over complicated in my view. A simple on and off would suffice. If the room is below the set temp, open and when the target temp is reached, close. Simples!!! The 'Heat on Demand' HOD, is another thing too. It doesn't turn on the heating straight away but can take over 15mins to activate. I'm still trying to figure that out but for the moment I'm using 'Schedule' to kick in the heating. Would I fit them in other rooms, yes and have done in all the upstairs. Can they be improved, YES! As for battery life, no issues there but mine are only in for about a month now. Hope this helps when you install them. Its nice that you can boost a particular room on its own or even turn off a room too but these TRV's are best when you have them fitted in every room For those in IRL, they are not available through the app, only through third party sellers like Amazon.
