Description: Make a perfect cup of tea or coffee in style with the Haden Dorchester 201300 Jug Kettle. With the variable temperature you can choose a temperature from 40 to 100 degrees to best suit the drink you're making. It has a capacity of 1.7 litres, so you can boil enough water for plenty of drinks. The boil dry protection will prevent the kettle from heating up if there's no water inside. It doesn't matter if you are right- or left-handed, because there's a 360° rotational base. Even if you live in a hard water area, the removable filter prevents limescale from entering your drink. Review: Most importantly, and a good engineering choice, the temperature-control on this kettle is fully integrated into the kettle itself, with no electronics in the base. This means there is no unreliable low voltage electronic connection between the base and the kettle. The only connection between the base and kettle is the mains electrical power. Temperature control therefore we have found to be very reliable (only a couple of degrees C overshoot or so). Even when the kettle is bouncing around a bit when boiling, there is no problem with the temperature control, unlike on so many other temperature control kettles we have seen. Re. the bouncing: the kettle does wobble/shake a bit when boiling, but no more than many other kettles we have seen; not sure why others consider this unusual. Temperature control can be set between 40 and 100 degrees (C) in 5 degree steps. Whilst heating, the kettle shows the current water temperature, so if you need e.g. 30 degree water you simply turn off the kettle yourself when it reaches the 30 degrees. Easy. Not sure about the other comments re. the lid; we have found ours to be very easy to take off and put back. If it is a bit tight, the four integrated spring clips on the corners of the lid can be bent inwards just a bit to make it less tight. In fact we really like this lid, as it comes off completely. Therefore it doesn't get in the way when filling, unlike on so many other kettles. There is no memory/battery back-up, so once you remove the kettle from the base the temperature set gets forgotten, and it resets to a default 100 degrees (C). But fortunately it won't re-heat until you press the boil button. Thus if you want to boil some more water, you will have to set the desired temperature again, which is very easy anyway. Personally I like it this way, as a backup-battery or memory would only be another thing to go wrong possibly. EDIT: it actually has a memory function; it remembers the last temperature set when refilling the kettle. Maybe I did something wrong the first time... The back-lighting is bright as others mentioned already, but after some time it automatically goes off until a button is pressed again. Like so many other kettles, the base could do with a some extra weight to hold it down in position, as the cable is a bit stiff, but if it is used in a fixed position then it does "settle in" after a few minutes. I can't say anything about long-term reliability yet, but most issues with kettles are due to not descaling frequently enough or letting it boil dry too often (those self-resetting boil-dry safety cut-outs usually can only handle a limited number of cut-out events).

Review: The kettle is ok, I mainly bought it because my old kettle died. I thought with temperature control function it might be quite good to save money. As I sometimes boil the kettle to get hot water, but I don’t always need it at hundred degrees. At the beginning it was very impressed, but sadly now the temperatures don’t seem to be too accurate. Know when I boil the kettle and I set it for example to 75° it might only boil up to 69 or maybe the next time it’ll boil to 77 etc
