Review: About 6 weeks ago I decided to upgrade from my trusty Asus Crosshair Hero VIII wi-fi X570 and AMD 5800X rig to the AMD 7700X and this awesome Gigabyte Aorus Master X670E. In short, I upgraded on release day of AM5 and Zen4. It was not a cheap upgrade. I decided to upgrade because I had been using my awesome X570 for almost three years and the manufacturer warranty was rated for three years (only a couple of months warranty remaining). I was actually on the fence about upgrading due to high early adopter prices but I read an article that AMD would stop supporting AM4 in end of December 2023. Also, I had not seen a BIOS update from Asus for my mobo in 6 months. So in the end, I took the plunge and went for this AM5 mobo. The first one I purchased from OCUK and that turned out to have a faulty BIOS as I kept getting error codes 21 (and E5). I finally managed to get it working but it was unstable in W10-64b. In the end, I got fed up and RMA'd it. I got a full refund and I purchased a replacement unit from Novatech at special offer price which was £40 cheaper than all other retailers. I jumped on it straight away. Mobo was promptly delivered the next day. All installed and working flawlessly (thank God). However, the mobo just was not detecting my WD 2TB 3D NAND M.2. After much trouble shooting and downloading the online PDF manual (no paper manual in the box!) I finally learned that this mobo (indeed all AM5 mobos) do not support SATA based M.2. They only support PCIE based M.2. I was annoyed and had to purchase a pair of 1TB Crucial PCIE based M.2. Another added expenditure. Anyhoo, both were delivered same day (9pm). Thanks Amazon Prime. Slapped them in my mobo and working perfectly. To conclude, I am very happy with my new AM5 rig but it was so damned expensive to upgrade (£1200). I am hoping to recoup c.75% of my investment by selling off all my AM4 components. On the downside, I am really annoyed that AM5 does not support SATA M.2 as that would have saved me £140. I also have limited storage capacity for my Steam and Origin games (1TB each versus my previous SATA M.2 SSD's which were 2TB each). AM5 should have implemented 2xPCIE-M.2 and 2xSATA-M.2. On hindsight, I should have upgraded from my 5800X to 5900X (which I was contemplating in June 2022 as the 5900X was selling for £330 new on Amazon). I then should have waited for MSRP for AM5 and Zen4 to drop to sensible levels (Q2-2023). Global sales for Zen4 and AM5 have been very poor due to stupidly high msrp and global financial crisis (cost of living). As a result, AMD has cut back Zen4 production in order to keep limited supply and thus msrp artificially inflated, instead of lowering Zen4 msrp to sensible levels. Sadly, AMD is now adopting the same sneaky, money grabbing and dishonest polices as intel and Nvidia.

Review: I've had Gigabyte in the past a few times (x570 Master, I have 2 currently and one had to go back due to a fault with corruption to m.2 drives) fast forward to now and I stupidly go, x670e can't be that bad. I'm just going to bullet point the problems lol * USB Dropouts with USB mic connected * Slow USB input (keyboard) stickly keys * Cold boot issues with not starting * Overwrote DDR5 EXPO profile on corsair memory (profile reads 4.1 volts, and timings are all worse than previously, I tried this memory over the original ddr5 modules i got that were XMP, thinking it was a memory issue) * M.2 slot closest to CPU (top), only ran at half speed, x2 instead of x4 for PCIE4.0 and x1 for PCIE3.0, one PCIE3.0 didn't even allow boot in this slot * Pretty sure it killed a PCIE 10gig nic, as it no longer worked in the second pcie slot (though considering the above, maybe the slot just stopped working?) I do have alot of M.2's a 4090 and alot of USB devices but - not more than the ports on the board. all of the above remained the same regardless of Bios version installed. I got a replacement same day once RMA/Refund was approved for the gigabyte with an MSI x670e Carbon and that was DOA (my luck), I started to think the problem was other hardware at this point, though still worked in the Gigabyte (with the above issues still) Followed with a Asus 670e Crosshair Hero, installed all the same CPU/Memory/GPU/Storage/USB Devices and PSU) Worked right away with zero issues from what I can tell in the short time I've had it. I certainly will not be buying any gigabyte motherboards, or PSU :D in the near future.
