Review: For Fractal Design Define 7 Compact Black ATX Mid Tower Pros: - Cable management made easy - High quality materials and construction - Sound dampening panels - Optional mesh top panel - Power LED isn't super bright - Dust filters are easy to remove for cleaning - Top bracket removable for easy building - Screw-less panels - Nice compact design is shorter than other ATX cases - No cross-bars on the PCI slots to cover GPU ports Cons: - The top panel will trigger the reset button when put back on, so I need to shut off the computer to clean the top dust filter. - Optional side panel thumb screws would be nice Notes: - The Define series is meant to be more quiet than provide better airflow. If you have a CPU or GPU that runs warmer, you will need to get better/more fans and tweak fan curves. Or get a Fractal case with an open mesh front panel. That said, I wish the case had an optional open front panel. Overall rating: 5 out of 5, excellent My first experience with Fractal Design was a Define ITX case, and it was a great experience. This case was my third build in a Fractal and it made me like Fractal more. As of this review I also got a Fractal Design Vector case for another build, and a Define 7 non-compact. Both were equally as good products.

Review: The Fractal Design 7 Compact was not well thought-out. The description states that it can accomodate 2x 140mm or 3x 120mm fans on top but only barely. First step, replace the stiff as a board cables that come with the Corsair RM850X because they will not work for this case. You'll need to buy the premium cables seperately from them because you're going to need the flexibility. Even then, they aren't perfect. I'm using the Geoforce RX3060 GPU for this build, which is modest in size but still a power hungry graphics card. It requires two power sources from the motherboard, which is at the top of the Maximus Hero XIII. The cables come through the top opening of the case to reach the motherboard but obstruct the far left fan. Even after pusing the fans sided by side to the far right, the left fan can only be attached with two screws and will not align straight on the bracket (see picture). This is an unanticipated design flaw. Since it was released in 2020, there's no excuse for this. I had one HDD backup drive I wanted installed but the cage had to be removed to make it fit because there's literally no room for all the cabling required to power everything. Now, the drive is not recognized by the motherboard and I'm going to have to pull everything out from the back (which thankfully, I haven't tied down yet) to troubleshoot the issue. I'll likely put the drive in an encasement and plug it into the back of the motherboard to sit next to the two backup drives I already have on my desk. Since I can't return this case because it's past the 30 days due to ongoing issues with the Asus motherboard (another piece of junk), I'll probably just throw this case away and start all over again. I wanted something with a smaller imprint and clean design but clearly, this isn't the case for it. I'll just kiss the money goodbye and purchase a full mid-size ATX case (maybe even the Design 7). I'm running a min-beast underneath the hood and even baby beasts require lots of cabling because they're hungry. This case just doesn't accomodate that kind of build. Maybe water cooling would've have been a better resolution bu I'm not a gamer and Fractal doesn't really push it (for this case) even though it can accomodate something small. Now that this case is in short supply, I've noticed prices have gone up (drastically from some sellers) but that means Fractal has something new coming out soon. Regardless, I'd stick with the full mid-size ATX version of this case.
