Description: Vigor AP 912C is a high-performance Mesh Wireless solution, designed to expand the wireless coverage, eliminate Wi-Fi dead zones and significantly reduce the cost of network deployments. It can also be used as a traditional access point either managed or stand alone so has the flexibility to be used how you need it. The Vigor AP 912C is a dual-band 802.11ac Wave 2 Mesh Wireless solution, designed to eliminate wireless drop outs, stuttering videos, slow download speeds, poor signal and Wi-Fi dead zones. One access point acts as the controller (Mesh root) and in total up to 8 access points create an easy to manage wireless mesh. Extend coverage without running expensive cabling. Initial setup of the Vigor AP 912C is easy with the Dray Tek Wireless app, whether it's creating a new Mesh network or being set up in AP and Range Extender modes, the Quick Start Wizard assists throughout. Manage the Vigor AP 912C centrally through the Vigor ACS central management platform, Vigor Connect, Router AP Management, or simply on its own as a stand-alone access point. The Vigor AP 912C has the flexibility to be used how you need it. Mesh Wireless Mesh Wireless links Vigor AP access points across both Wi-Fi and Wired links to cover a large area with a single Wireless network, spanning multiple Wireless Access Points and easily managed from the Mesh Root Vigor AP or with the Dray Tek Wireless app. The Mesh Root Vigor AP links up to your existing Internet router, such as the Dray Tek Vigor 2862ac and additional Vigor A Ps join up as Mesh Nodes, which connect wirelessly to the Mesh Root. Your devices see a single Wi-Fi network (SSID) and connect to the nearest Vigor AP in the Mesh, instead of a distant Wi-Fi network with low signal. Internet connectivity relays through the Mesh, using the up to 866 Mbps 5G Hz wireless as the backhaul link, to relay between Mesh Nodes and avoid long waits for downloads. Easy Setup with the Dray Tek Wireless app Dray Tek's Wireless app assists you with setting up Vigor AP 912C access points and a Mesh Wireless network. Once installed on your Smartphone or Tablet, use the Quick Start Wizard to set your Vigor A Ps to operate as a Mesh Wireless network. Set up a single Vigor AP 912C as a stand-alone Access Point, or extend an existing wireless network as a Range Extender. Simply scan the access point’s QR code to detect it, or manually input the Vigor A Ps default SSID & password, then configure your wireless network with step-by-step guidance. When it’s all set up, view the Mesh Wireless status and connected wireless clients from the app. Power-over-Ethernet The Vigor AP 912C has built-in Po E (Standard IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet) as standard. Connect the Vigor AP to a Po E-enabled Ethernet switch or Po E injector to power it without local power to the unit (power supply) - the Vigor AP 912C will take its power from the Ethernet cable. The Vigor AP 912C supports Gigabit Po E (if you have a Gigabit Po E switch/injector) such as our Vigor Switch P1280 or P1092 models (or any other 802.3af/at device). Po E is ideal for situations where you do not have mains power available in the exact location where you want to install the Vigor AP 912C or just for general aesthetic neatness, perhaps where the AP is installed somewhere prominent. The Dray Tek Vigor AP 912C can alternatively be powered by an AC/DC mains PSU, for installations where you are not using Po E. Ceiling Mounting For ceiling mounting, a circular mounting plate (included with the unit) is fitted and then the Vigor AP 912C is secured into place by twisting the Vigor AP into the mounting plate. For suspended ceilings, additional mounts are included to attach to ceiling T-Bars (see later), clipping securely into place. The AP-912C is designed to be installed on ceilings in order to serve the area below it. The cables (Ethernet or Power) can reach the AP-912C from the rear or the side. For solid ceiling fixing a backplate is supplied. The backplate fixes to the ceiling and the AP-912C then clips in. Alternatively, T-Bar mounts enable quick and easy attachments to suspended ceilings (see photo below). The AP-912C can also be wall-mounted - keyhole slots on the back allowing any orientation. Dual Band 11ac Wave 2 Access Point The Vigor AP 912C is an 802.11ac Wave 2 access point, improving performance by increasing the amount of data that can be sent at one time. 11ac Wave 2 includes Multi User MIMO (Multiple In, Multiple Out) or MU-MIMO technology, further building upon the MIMO technologies introduced with 802.11n. The Vigor AP's MU-MIMO technology when used with MU-MIMO capable wireless clients, allows each antenna (or Spatial Stream) to send to separate wireless clients, potentially doubling the data transmission rate to clients. Significant limitations of wireless throughput are the frequency space and radio time, shared between all users. A typical wireless access point can send data to only one client at a time with its radio. With enough users connected, congestion slows down. Review: This Draytek product is, like all Draytek products, well engineered and reliable. It also inter-operates well with other Draytek equipment being manageable as part of a large installation from one of Draytek's routers. However it is overpriced for what it is - by comparison the Netgear WAX214 is a WiFi6 ceiling-mounted access point with WPA3 security and it is only just over £100. I don't know how Draytek can expect people to pay 50% more for a product with a lesser specification, but I assume they simply aren't interested in selling volumes of their product and are happy to only sell to people who want to stay within the Draytek world. Just to be clear, I am not criticising the product itself which is fine as long as you are happy with its outdated specification. But I do feel that bearing in mind the limitations of the product it should really be at least priced comparably with other competent but higher-specced products like the Netgear WAX214.
