Review: Owners of the DJI Osmo pocket have been waiting for the official waterproof case for quite sometime now. Well it has at last arrived, amid much speculation regarding how they could make it work with the little pocket camera that has almost a 360 degree of mobility. Would the head be spherical? How would they be able to avoid image distortion that occurs when the world is viewed through a concave or convex surface? Well the answer is they didn't. They solved the problem by certainly making a tough lightly textured grey plastic case that looks a little like a small torch, with the head at an angle of about 45 degrees with a thick clear perspex covered window allowing the camera to view through a flat service thereby avoiding image distortion. A software upgrade is required for the Osmo Pocket, which then gives you the option in the menus of underwater mode. This sets the camera head to the correct angle and locks it in place so that once inside the waterproof case it cannot be changed. It does solve the problem of image distortion but also means that any panning of a movie is done with your arm. It is waterproof to 60m, which I have not tested, as I have only done a little surface snorkelling with this. It comes with moisture absorbing strips (3 - more can be purchased seperately) which are placed inside the case to prevent the window from steaming up while on a dive. This worked well in my unit, but I'm not sure how long a strip will last before it needs changing. Ultimately people buying this case are only likely going to need it for holiday or recreational use, and it performs this function adequately. Obviously you cannot access the touchscreen features once the camera is in the case, and you only have access to the on/off and record buttons. This is a cautious recommend as it does do what it should, allow you to use your Osmo safely underwater. But what you can do is so restricted that it may seem like an unnecessary expense for limited benefit.
