Review: This gimbal is an amazing peice of kit in my opinion. It’s light, extremely portable. Easy to use. Some reviewers have commented on it being overpriced. But in my opinion you get what you pay for. Yes there are cheaper options, including earlier dji models. But i think the extension arm was the dealbreaker for me. I get the impression it will last me for years, so have no problem being £145 lighter in the wallet. I just wanted to mention Two things that potential buyers might find useful, I haven’t seen already mentioned. Firstly, it works absolutely great with the iPhone 6 Plus, altho dji’s own compatibility list says earliest phone is the 8. Ok, it’s an old phone, but I’m sure there’s still plenty in circulation. I will be upgrading soon tho. Secondly, you don’t need to use the app, if you just want basic 3 axis stabilisation and start/stop, and picture taking features. It works as a standalone unit. It’s just a Bluetooth connection. You don’t get the zoom or tracking of course. But can still pan in all directions. So if you just want to do a basic shoot, just use your phone’s camera app. Why would you do this you may ask. Well to save your phones battery life. If there’s one downside to the app, is it literally sucks the life out of my phones battery. I can’t comment on newer phones with bigger capacity just yet. All in all tho, it’s still 5 stars from me. I love it. I may do an update, when i get my 13 pro max next week.

Review: Even though I have a gimbal for my Go Pro action camera and a gimbal for my mirrorless camera this is the first mobile phone gimbal I have bought, and I have to say that I am in two minds as to whether it is going to be useful as I first thought it would be or not. I chose the DJI Osmo mobile 6 gimbal because, owning several DJI products, I have never been disappointed with a DJI product. The build quality of Osmo 6 mobile is superb, and it feels tough, durable and like it is going to last. The knobs and buttons feel nice and tight and the LCD screen is awesome since I can tell what mode the gimbal is in by simply looking at it. I like the magnetic phone holder as it is super quick to put the phone on and take it off again. With this set up it is possible to get the phone out of my pocket, open the gimbal, attach the phone and get recording in a few short minutes. The physical dimensions of the Osmo mobile 6 and the fact that it folds up nice small make it perfect as a have on me at all times gimbal to help me captured super smooth mobile footage. DJI claim that you don’t need to balance your phone using the Osmo mobile 6. Whilst you don’t need to balance your phone you do have to calibrate it, which is effectively balancing it. I find that putting the phone on to the gimbal and taking it off numerous times during the day puts the gimbal out of balance several times which, as I am sure you have already guessed means calibrating the gimbal several times, which in turn requires placing the gimbal on its tripod base on a flat surface. The “no need to balance” claim is, in my opinion, mis-sold. I know from previous experience that DJI doesn’t play nice with Android devices and the Osmo mobile 6 is no different. The instant start and app launch is only available to iPhone users and it seems the zoom/focus wheel is the same. No matter how hard I try and cannot get the zoom/focus wheel to work with my Xperia, therefore this wheel is redundant in my set up. The Android version of the DJI App is slow, buggy and constantly crashes. The Android version is so poor, and such a frustrating experience I don’t use it out in the field to record video and I rely on Sony’s Video Pro instead. Unfortunately, the App is needed to adjust the gimbal settings and to calibrate it, so I have to leave it installed on my phone. Currently, Android users cannot benefit from the full benefits of the DJI Osmo mobile 6 gimbal, and as much as I would like to use the Osmo mobile 6 to its full potential I am not prepared to switch over to Apple to do so. DJI products are expensive and I was aware of this before parting with my hard earned cash for the Osmo mobile 6. That said, £145 for very expensive and overpriced for what it is. There are other mobile gimbals out there that are less than half the price, and whilst these may not have all the features of the Osmo mobile 6 I do wonder if they are half as good. The DJI Osmo mobile 6 is a good gimbal, there are no doubts about it, however it isn’t as good as what all the social media influencers say it is, at least not for me, and I would struggle to recommend it.
