Review: Love all the RGB effects although I do think they could have incorporated more of the mouse EG There's a shiny strip along the bottom of the mouse that should have been RGB to line up with the small RGB spots on the left and right hand sides Love the fact its USB-C Love the weight Love the extra grips you get in the box Love the DPI modes Nothing really to complain about here

Review: I have had the original Corsair Dark Core RGB SE mouse for a number of years and it has served me well. Only recently it has started to discharge very quickly, so I decided to upgrade to the replacement Corsair Dark Core RGB Pro SE after watching many reviews on line saying how good it was. This new mouse feels inferior from the outset. The original mouse had a textured rubber thumb support which felt comfortable, this has been replaced with a textured hard rigid plastic which is both uncomfortable and cheaper to produce. The same can be said of the small finger support on the other side of the mouse. The original had a smooth rubber surface, again for cost reduction this has been replaced with textured hard plastic, as it is easier to injection mould a single plastic. The decision to remove the sniper button I feel was a mistake as I was able to set this up using the i-cue macro facility and it was much easier to access as it was directly below your thumb, with the forward and rear rockers in line, and all slightly recessed so it felt natural in the position you thumb lies in on the side of the mouse. Now the two mouse buttons are above the thumb position ,and in a more awkward position as this is above the recess on the side of the mouse for your thumb. The main left and right click buttons and the DPI selector buttons and DPI indicator lights remain unchanged, but the scroll wheel is slightly wider than the old one and feels like it has a more rubberised but less textured grip, but I am comparing it to a mouse that has been used extensively since I bought it in 2018, so time will tell. The rear palm grip on the mouse again feels more plasticky than the original which after all this time still feels more comfortable to use and grippy, whist the new one doesn't The new mouse is supposed to have a higher DPI and poling rate than the original, but for me an average user this makes little to no difference for general use or even gaming and in my mind are just sales gimmicks. I have the corsair Qi charging mouse mat, another reason I opted for this as a replacement, and the last mouse worked well with it. It was easy to position as the rear of the mouse just had to line up with the outer circle on the mouse pad and away it went. On the new version the Qi charging point has been moved further forward to make way for the single switch at the rear which replaced the two switches on the original (another manufacturing cost saving, not an improvement as they would have you believe), this now makes it more difficult to position the mouse on the mouse pad for charging as the circular marks on the mat are now totally covered by the mouse whilst trying to position it. The old mouse used to flash when charging, this one does not, so the only indication I have is the led on the mouse mat which flashes fast if not correctly positioned and slightly slower when charging. The only real improvements on the new mouse are the replacement of the micro usb socket at the front with a usb c one, and a smaller usb dongle, how this size reduction will affect connectivity remains to be seen, but again the dongle while smaller feels cheaper than the one it replaces (it looks exactly like a Bluetooth dongle I bought from a pound shop years ago). It is also of much poorer quality than my Logitech mouse dongle which is the same size. The corsair braided cables I find to be far too rigid, especially when charging the mouse and using it, but that seems to be the same with all of Corsairs braided cables, on mice, keyboards and headsets. Unfortunately in my opinion this mouse is not worth the asking price and is another example of a worrying trend I have noticed in Corsair products of late (of which I have bought alot over the years), in that they are sacrificing quality to save on manufacturing costs, which as a design engineer myself, is blatantly obvious and not a good idea for a premium brand to do. After having seen plenty of reviews on line telling me how great this mouse was, I felt compelled to write this review to give my opinion on it compared to the older model it replaces (simply because I have no alternative with Qi charging in the corsair, or any other line up). Whilst on paper it looks better in reality I find it to be much a poorer quality product and less comfortable or useable than the original. Definitely not worth the cost, and certainly not an upgrade to the original.
