Review: Just what I wanted. To have a reasonable monocular (9 x) and the ability to capture and stabilise the image. When the zoom photo is combined with the phone's ability to digitally zoom a further 10x, although the image is poor at this level, it is quite an extraordinary thing to have. I have abandoned my binoculars and monoculars and just carry this. Disadvantages are the need to always use the dedicated charger, the battery life if used for more than an hour is poor, but all in all, I love it

Review: I hoped this would be a great little addition for those days when I can't take my main camera along with me but after trying it out for a good while I am unconvinced it is any better than relying on my Smartphone instead. It is rather nifty and easily fits in a pocket. Howevber, I didn't find the controls at all ergonomic or intuitive. The manin buttons are hardly raised at all so it is difficult to access them without actually moving the camera from your eye and looking! Also, when zoomed in, I found that camera shake made it very difficult to get a sharp image. Canon claim that the camera has stabilisation but I can't say that I thought it was effective when zoomed in. I found it annoying that the zoom isn't progressive and simply jumps between 100, 400 and 800mm - and I wouldn't bother with the digital zoom setting at all, to be honest. As a guide to performance I've chosed three images taken with the Canon Zoom and one with an Olympus set up for comparison (to be fair this camera and zoom telephoto will set you back about six or seven times the cost of the Canon!),. The skyline photo show a normal shot. Then I've zoomed in on the crane and Church tower. Finally there is a 400x zoom taken with the Canon compared to a 400x Zoom taken with the Olympus set up. Whether you think the Canon is worth the money given the quality of the photos I will leave up to you, along with the proviso that you might of course be able to get better photos than me with both cameras! To sum up. I found the Canon difficult to use and was disappointed with the results compared to my admitedly expensive set-up - but if you don't want to spend a lot on a zoom camera you might be happy with them! I think I might still use it as a spotter scope on occasion.
