Review: Finally decided to try a Brother as have thrown away many short-lived HP, Canon and Epsom's. Ordered from Curry's (UK) Jan 3 for Jan 4 delivery. Jan 5 and Jan 6 had 3 web chats to India I realised Curry's is just lying to me on when it will be delivered for in-store collection. I heard anything from it's on the van and delivering tonight to it's being delivered between 2-3pm today which I told web chat India it was 5pm. Reminded me of furniture123.com where they don't actually have the product in stock but sell it like they do. Amazon is reliable (much like Costco and John Lewis) and got it in 2 days. I found this printer very easy to install. The only trouble was finding the password which like our wifi hubs it's on the back of the printer which the instructions didn't indicate. Print quality is great so far. And wow this prints faster than any other home printer I've had before. Fingers crossed this lasts more than a few years unlike the predecessors which seem to be just throw-aways.

Review: I have had a home office for over 20 years and in that time I have purchased a few A3/A4 printers. My previous EPSON WF7620 was a fabulous workhorse and last many years. If it weren't obsolete I'd have replaced it with the same. Unfortunately, having looked at a lot of reviews, I plumbed for this Brother printer. The basic set up was quite easy - for someone who has set up a lot of these things. The problem is, getting the printer to retain the settings! I've lost the Wifi connection twice and have had to re-enter the wifi password to get it to play. Forget the management software it comes with - the simplest (in terms of being void of any useful features) you'll have seen since the 1990s. It focusses mainly on establishing its spy tendrils so that Brother adverts (pointless "reminders") can irritate you frequently. Currently, everytime I print a sheet, I get a message saying "YOUR PRINTER REQUIRES ATTENTION" on my PC screen. When I checked it out, it was an ink level warning for the black cartridge that I had 80 pages worth of black ink left. Fine. Now don't tell me again until another milestone, say 50 pages. NOT EVERY PRINT ACTION. But then, selling the next cartridge is their main concern, not making you like their shoddy printer. I have an issue with A4 and Letter printing. It is something I have not had to concern myself with the EPSON - either format would use the paper in the top tray. With the Brother, no such luck. If I set the tray to A4, it won't do Letter format docs without manual intervention at the touchscreen on the printer front. Similarly, if I set the tray to Letter, it won't do A4 without manual intervention. Come on! Other people software sorted this out years ago. The A3 printing is, in this respect, OK. The print quality is often not bad really, but it is not consistent for reasons I don't understand. if I print five A3 electrical drawings, one after the other, they will vary in print quality. All OK, but some definitely better than others. There are a couple of other issues with the A3 that does bug me. The paper trays have a really short top cover (12cm deep). But the tray sticks out of the printer by nearly 20cm. This strangely leaves 8cm of paper exposed. Very unusual. I know - save plastic right? But my final gripe (for now) is the paper feed. The guide out of the front is fixed horizontal. I'd prefer to have it angles up a bit help manage multiple sheets. Several people have had a go at trying to release the guide to reposition it, but, alas, no such luck. The result is; print multiple pages and they will be "collated" in a random order - each new sheet ploughing through the untidy mess of horizontal sheets. If there is a "trick" to adjusting the guide, shame on Brother for such poor design and poorer instructions. So, in conclusion, if wasn't for my urgent requirement for an A3 printer, I'd have sent this crud back. As it is, I will buy another printer and give this to anyone who will take it away.
