Review: The Braun series 9 is the first foil shaver that i have tried, i had always said you cannot beat a wet shave for best close shave and if you can a cut throat razer is the best of the wet shave but like most people of my age my hands are not steady enough to control one which is the reason i tried a foil razer i had used a rotary shaver in the past but they never give a close enough shave so i decided to give a foil razer a chance so looking at all of the major makes i settled on a Braun and as the series 9 had such a good rating (and i believe you get what you pay for) so I settled on the most expensive I bought the razer 14 months ago and at the start i found that the Braun series 9 gave a shave almost as good as a wet shave, over the 14 months it slowly started to loose its edge and in the end the foil on one end started to scratch my face and looking at the foil under a microscope i saw that one of the holes had broke and the little bit from between two holes had split and was sticking up causing the scratches so i decided it is time for a new head even though it was sooner than the recommended time but i have to say the difference between the old head and the new one was huge so i believe that it must have been slowly wearing out and as it was 14 months since i bought it it deserved a new one, when i use to use a wet shaver i would have to replace the blades at least once a week and now and then it would not last that long if i was going out and needed a close shave i had to replace the head every other day so with the blades working out at around £4.50 to £5.50 each it works out at between £468 to £572 per year so buying a replacment head each 14 months @ around £41 each time saves you between £427 and £531per year so well worth the cost even if you were buying the razer for the first time at £224 plus a head at £41 = £265 for 2 years shaving using a powered 5 blade razer the costs work out between £936 and £1144 and that does not include the handle itself which i doubt would last for 2 years, so whilst it may look expensive compared to the 5 blade powered razer at around £20 to £25 it works out much less in the long run these numbers are based on my shaving and i admit i have a very heavy growth when i was in the army a would have to shave twice a day as by then it looked like i had not bothered to shave so for people with a lower growth both the wet razer and these razers would give a longer life than i get but it would be the same % of difference. All in all to sum up this Braun series 9 razer is as close to a wet shave with a new blade as you can get and over time it will work out to cost much less than the wet razer costs.

Review: You can see on some of the photos from other reviews that the head is a silver finish, as opposed to the chrome finish on my series 9! My shaver head was a couple of years old so decided to bite the bullet and replace it, it does seem to have improved my daily shave, but not a massive difference which is probably credit to the quality of the original head. I have sensitive skin and dry shave daily, in all my years nothing has achieved better results than a good quality Braun shaver.
