Review: I wanted a KitchenAid kettle but just couldn't justify the cost, and the Ariete had copied the KA look with the silver band, little porthole for the temperature gauge and the round lever. I've had it now for eight months, and used it up to 8-10 times a day. It's about average on the boil speed, but I have two gripes which outweigh the nice looks etc - the water seems to go metallic after just one boil, something that didn't happen with my last kettle, so I know it's not the water. As a result I have to tip out what's in it and fill the kettle with fresh water every time I brew up, something I prefer to avoid from an environmental point of view - but don't have much choice, the water does taste quite rank and makes the tea undrinkable. I don't fill it up very far each time but you need to put in a certain amount of water before it will actually start heating up. The second issue - and others have commented on this - is that it chips and scratches REALLY easily. I've tried to be extra careful with the lid but nevertheless quite a few chunks of white paint are still missing, which really detracts from the look. Plus, where do those paint chips go? Do they sneak into my tea? Yuck. I do like the look of this kettle very much, but on balance I wouldn't buy this model again.
