Review: With the 2070 Super and i7 10700, you are essentially sitting at the top of the laptop gaming mountain, just below i9 and 2080 super which are to be honest waste of money and not worth the upgrade just for a little more fps. Bought it during a sale at £2407 and it was the most expensive thing I ever got for myself but I know for a fact that this monster will crush anything coming at it for the next couple years and handle games for at least 3 more years without a cpu/gpu upgrade. Yes, the best part is that you can swap the cpu or gpu inside to same or newer version as long as the socket type is same. Seems like the 11th gen i7 are gonna be supported for this laptop but not sure about rtx 3000 series, so for gpu side, its best to get AGA or an eGPU in the future to keep up the pace. You can upgrade to 2080 super and i9 10900k later on but probably it won’t be worth the money for the performance you get, better to look for alternatives like future AGA models. The black colour version of Alienwares unfortunately have US keyboard configuration and this version has 144hz with no g-sync but had tobii eye tracking which is fun to use for streaming. I wish I bought it from the alienware website because they sell same colour and specifications but with 360hz with g-sync and 32gb ram instead of 16gb here in Amazon. Only downside is that its £50 more from alienware website using discount code. If you don’t have a 15% discount voucher or a sale, then obviously buy from amazon as its much cheaper on here with insignificant losses like higher refresh rate screen since most games won’t be able to reach 360fps and above 144hz is noticeable after 240 or something so best to go with 144hz and maxed out graphics with rtx to enjoy this beast. The cooling is exceptionally good considering its on a laptop, though it is a quite thick and heavy laptop so best to buy if it will stay on a desk for 90% of the time and plugged in. Doing some undervolting on the cpu, I get 75 degrees for cpu and 65 degrees for gpu. The cpu could get to 90 without the undervolt and low fan speeds so I don’t suggest getting the K version of cpu and overclock it since there won’t be much of a gain and may wanna stick to lower temps for longevity of the laptop. Overclocking the gpu is recommended and not difficult to find appropriate values. I gained from 5-20 fps depending on games. Extremely satisfied with the build quality as well, no bending and smooth matte surface. Fans work very quiet when idle and not even audible during heavy loads when wearing headphones. Keyboard is probably the best I ever got using, very satisfying to type, rgb also. Though, the Alienware software could be improved since MSI’s keyboard lightings can do so much more using the software. A few cons would be having to use two power bricks for full power of this beast, though I’ve read that you could ditch the smaller one forever and you would lose 4-5% fps but I’m happy to use two since this laptop won’t be moving much and I have spare plugs. It is very bulky and heavy though looks beautiful. Battery life is also very short, 2 hours sometimes max but dont buy this laptop for the battery. Overall, buy it on sale and you won’t regret the investment.
