Review: I wanted to get started with smart bulbs but know very little about them and how they work. I don’t have an Alexa and don’t want to purchase a Hue Bridge so just wanted something I can control via an app on my phone. Philips Hue seem to be regarded as the best smart bulbs available, although they are quite expensive for what they are so I stuck to the basics and just got the warm white bulbs which can be dimmed. I mainly wanted a dimmable bulb for my bedroom lamp as it tends to be too bright if I wake up during the night and switch it on. I’m very pleased with these bulbs despite feeling like they are overpriced. Setting them up was so easy - just screw them in, switch the lamps on, and the Philips Hue Bluetooth app discovered the bulbs and connected in a few seconds. As my flat is small the Bluetooth range works everywhere, so I can switch on a lamp before I enter a room! The app is easy to use and the bulbs seem to be very responsive to the on/off and dimming controls. The bulbs are also a nice warm white colour and have good brightness. As far as I’ve seen these bulbs will work with most new smartphones but not older ones, so I would suggest checking if your smartphone and operating system are supported before buying. I’m not sure if the experience would be as straightforward when trying to connect with a Hue Bridge or Alexa, but if you’re just looking for a simple way to join the world of smart bulbs I would definitely recommend these.

Review: Update: it took me a while and chasing support to eventually connect the bulbs to echo. Once that was done, it works really well and I am happy with it. So revising my 1 star to 4. Sometimes it goes buggy and won't listen to you, but most of the time it's good. Original review: Does not work. I bought the echo dot and 2 Philips hue white bulbs and Alexa/Echo can't 'discover' them and in the Alexa app the lights appear disabled and won't let me enable them. It says something like 'ensure they are in pairing mode' but there is no explanation anywhere what that means. Can't find a troubleshooting guide anywhere. I'm very disappointed. Being able to voice operate the lights was the sole reason I oredered echo.
