Review: Tested this hooked up to the Lumix-G2; extraordinary for doing what I bought it for, macro photos & to my surprise, great for portraits too... Just a word to the wise, when you open the package & before it is powered up on your camera, there is a scary "rattle" - this is actually documented in reviews and it stops as soon as power is on (it's the OIS anti shake). It is very unnerving for such an expensive piece of kit with a Leica signature... but heh, panic over, it's a beauty to use ! Just for fun, via the wifi link from G6 to ipad I grabbed this breakfast image the aperture is stopped down practically as far as it'd go & with a 20" exposure, all is nice & crisp... I know lots of people like macro shots with bokeh (background blurr) but I don't and so this is just what I was looking for...

Review: This is an expensive lens but you get your money worth: this is a good lens, sharp, fast, beautiful bokeh, etc. and it will complement nicely the 20mm pancake that ships with the GF1 (they even share the filter thread size). It's also incredibly small (if you compare to a 90mm macro for a DSLR), just slightly larger than the 14-45 kit lens. Built quality is also excellent and I'm sure that the Leica branding has added at least a hundred pound to the price... but that's fair game since there are no alternatives in Micro 4/3 (there are, of course, many other macro lens compatible with the Panasonic GF1 but you have to use adapters and the lenses tend to be much larger... not to mention they won't autofocus). Still for all its qualities, it has one flaws that keeps it aways from the 5 stars: f/2.8 which is not fast enough for the GF1: (1) Panasonic sensor remains quite noisy so the more light the better, (2 the 20mm pancake gathers one and a half times more light so you always have to adjust your settings when you swap lens and (3), given the smaller sensor of Micro 4/3, it's sometimes difficult to blur the background enough, e.g. in portraiture. A good lens with no serious competition for Micro 4/3 cameras but I wish at that price it was f/2.
