Review: Absolutely brilliant. Bought as a present for my partner and he loves it. A little tinny at high volumes but much better than expected for the size and price of the unit. Can't fault it at all!

Review: First off, a confession. I didn't expect it to sound great, but the plan was to use the line out to my Sonos system anyway, so I wasn't surprised by the lack of quality of the built-in sound. Playback through the Sonos isn't at all bad. So, the good bits, I like the design, the fact it has most of the features I wanted for my non-streamed music was promising. The cassette player is extremely basic, it plays a tape and that's it. Haven't found a way to fast forward or rewind a tape. The only way I've found of stopping is to switch function to cd or something. The CD player is slightly better, but if you're using the line-out you get noise switching functions which is quite loud (reminds me of an old 70's amp which had push buttons for selecting the function). DAB works, but without the use of the remote, I've only been able to scroll through the stations on the front, and not then actually select the displayed station, although this works fine via the remote. FM radio is actually the easiest thing to use via the front panel controls and works fine. The recond deck works OK but needs a light to see the controls, I played a couple of 12" LPs so far and the sound is OK but quite. Bluetooth pairing was straight forward and works fine. Most functions seem better served via the remote, than the front panel. Annoying things found so far, the FM dial is not illuminated, lack of functionality on the front panel, there is only standby not an actual off. Overall it seems to be bits thrown together and not been subject to being designed overall - for example, the LCD panel shows the function selected, yet you get a blue led shown in the FM dial when streaming from Bluetooth along with the LCD telling you Bluetooth is in use, the DAB, and cassette controls on the front panel don't work, yet work on the remote; if you're using the line out for payback, it's weird, when after powering off at the mains, when powered back on the speakers have volume and not quite like they were before the power was turned off. The retro look is fine, but then why stick earphones, aux in and USB and those LEDs in the FM dial, why not hide the inputs behind a flap, and do away with those darn LED's, in the FM dial, and add some illumination for the record deck. This may all sound quite negative, but the overall package is 'adequate' and for the occasional times I'm not streaming music, it will be fine I'm sure - it's just a little quirky.
