Review: I have a Delonghi bean to cup cappaccino machine that makes excellent coffees but it should for the price. But it does take time and effort to make a coffee. This little machine is my first taste of coffee pods. I did a little research and Dolce Gusrto seemed to be the best value for money pods with a wide variety choice. All the big names make pods for this. The machine is an excellent first step into coffee pods. Its manual so you have to keep an eye on it. However it is so simple to use and makes a coffee in around a minute. 30 or so seconds to turn on and insert the pod and 30 seconds or so to make the cuppa. The machine does both hot and iced drinks. I tried the cold function and the water was very cold. However that may have been because the water had just come from the cold tap in winter. The only niggle if I had one is that the water tank only holds enough water for 3 to 4 mugs of coffee. So does mean that I fill to fill it up a couple times a day. But I drink way to much coffee. The coffee pods I have tried are just as good as my filter machine and cafeteria. You can also get hot chocolate pods, Horlicks pods and some speciality teas. There also seems to be a feasible pod you can buy for your own coffee. In summary this will probably make my filter coffee machine redundant and the expensive bean to cup machine relegated to the weekends. Energy wise it must be better than boiling my kettle or using the filter coffee machine as it is instant hot water fo around 30 seconds. Well worth the purchase at £35.

Review: I’ve probably been using this brand for 15+ years. I’ve had lots of coffee machines in that time and some are good and some are bad. We drink out of mugs so we need something that can take a mug rather than a little latte glass. It needs to therefore have a large base that is flat. This is not great as it has a tiny round one which moves. I had to take that out to make it work and even then it’s not great so that’s already a downside. We also need something that can fit a travel mug under. Therefore needs quite a lot of space between the base and the dispenser. This has such a large base at the bottom under the machine, so difficult to have under our kitchen counter as it’s too tall overall. This can however fit the travel mug so plus point there… however the overall height is tall due to the large base. I also prefer automatic but there are a few automatics (that work well over time) and this is not automatic so that’s probably a plus for me. The tank for me is another bug bear. I hate tanks that you need to completely disconnect to refill. This tank is okay to fill as you can just take the lid off and fill it with a jug in situ. That’s another plus. Going back to the overall height…The most annoying thing about this is how large it is and how bulky. It really doesn’t need to be and it’s just doing it for looks which is another problem. Due to its size it doesn’t fit under my counter with the capsule tray shelf underneath. So overall I sent it back. Some of those features may not bother people or maybe really important people so you just need to know what works for you. What I’m hoping for is a mug taking, travel cup taking, low slung (at the bottom) with an easy to fill water tank, manual machine comes out soon!
