Review: Ok so if you’re like me you’ve been brought here by Casey Neistat and really you don’t know that much about actually photography. Casey is a huge fan of the Canon G7X and we all know that the quality of his vlogs are excellent, and with this camera then so will yours. At least that’s what I thought. But lets face facts, Casey is a true professional filmmaker and knows all of the tricks, he spends hours gathering some of his shots and it shows, so you are asking yourself, like I did, will spending a huge amount on this camera make me as good. So I went for it and I can confirm that a month on, I don’t regret purchasing it at all, it hasn’t turned me into Casey but it has definitely brought something to the table. The camera has so many functions, most of which I don’t have a clue about but even in auto mode the images are sharp and clear and the quality of the microphone is good enough for vlogging. I would’ve liked to have been able to plug an external mic in as an option but even without it i’m ultimately happy with the audio. Time Lapse is really cool and simple to use, i’d like to give the Star Trail time lapse a go but living in the UK its hard to find a night clear enough to try this out…hopefully soon. With this being such a popular model there are plenty of instructions on the web that walk you through how to produce any effect you like, I don’t think i’ve actually looked at the instructions. As well as video you can also take still photos with this camera :) and the quality is excellent to the point that even my snaps look quite professional. Don’t forget that if you are purchasing this camera you’ll need an SD Card…just after receiving it I also decided that It needed some protection so I purchased the Case Logic DCB-302 Case for it, which allows me to clip it to my belt…makes me look super cool. :) One thing that I did notice was that it didn’t come with a UK power connector for the battery charger even though I purchased through Amazon UK, this was the Figure 8 type. Luckily I had one lying around that I was able to use. Might be worth checking this when you purchase to avoid disappointment. I’m not going to mark them down for this as its such a great little camera a deserves the full 5 stars

Review: A real disappointment to me. I have a Canon 5D Mk3, which is a brilliant DSLR, and an ageing Ixus which I used as a Happy Snappy when I didn't want the size and weight of the DSLR. I thought the G7X would give me the benefits of a DSLR in a much smaller package. In practice I find it really difficult to see the little screen, especially in bright sunlight, so it is extremely difficult to see the settings -- which are anyway extremely fiddly. Also this camera is very 'modern', designed to take Selfies and focus on faces, which means in landscape shots it focuses on rocks and blurs the rest. Gradually I have switched off all the special features, and downgraded it to a Happy Snappy, which it does pretty well and with tolerable picture quality. However I could have bought an SX620 for less than half the price, about half the size and weight, and with a FAR bigger telephoto. In my case I think that would have suited me much better.
