Review: This saw is good for all purpose as described. However, extreme care must be taken when using it. You need to reverse the blades for certain jobs when cutting wood so that you can cut away from you.

Review: Update following more use, including metal cutting: I have the 700 watt version, and I'm starting to realise it doesn't really have the oomph needed to cut metal well. If I try and start cutting a metal pipe slowly, the motor struggles to get going until I apply enough power to get the blade going, at which point it suddenly kicks off at high speed and then I end up skating the blade across the metal. The problem is, the 700w version is plenty heavy enough for my liking, and the more useful 900, 1100 & 1300w versions are even heavier. I'm even less convinced a reciprocating saw was a good idea for me, but it is a reasonable jack of all trades. If you really need a reciprocating saw, make sure you get one that is manageable but also powerful enough to do what you need. I'm very glad I bought it on one of Amazon's excellent deals, as I'd be feeling miffed if I'd paid over £70 for my 700 E. Original review: I've used this enough to review it now, but the fact that I haven't used it much while I've owned it, is testament to the fact that while it was a good buy when on sale, it's not necessarily a great buy in general. (For me, anyway.) The thing about these tools is that they do everything a hand saw does, with less sawing effort but a fair bit more faffing around. I'll put my hands up and admit I'm not that impressed with my purchase, and it was probably a waste of money for me. (What can I say? I love a bargain and Amazon do have some good sales.) The problem for me, is that this saw is a jack of all trades, but master of none: Circular saws do a better job of cutting wood neatly. (Especially table mitre saws) Oscillating multi-tools get into tighter gaps. Chainsaws are better in the garden. Even jigsaws are more accurate when cutting IMO, though obviously not as beefy as this tool. If you have a decent hand saw, you can often get a simple job done more quickly than faffing around setting this thing up. If you suffer issues using a hand saw, you're going to struggle handling this thing too, as it's pretty heavy. The blades are a bit awkward to fit in and out, but not unbearably so, just a bit more awkward than I reckon they should be, and then you have the power lead to sort out. The supplied power lead is not particularly long, so you'll probably need to use an extension lead. (Unless you can bring your job to the saw, and if you can do that, a table mitre saw would do a neater job more quickly.) Where this saw shines, is that it can power through a variety of different materials pretty well, with just a blade change. My problem is, I generally just cut wood, and for cutting wood, usually another way of cutting it is better than this saw. If I was cutting metal more, I think this tool would be more use to me, but I already have a jig-saw, which will do most of the jobs I need doing that this saw could also do. (Including cutting metal.) If you see it on offer, have got the room for it, and let's be frank you just want to own one, then go for it. These saws do cut quickly and are simple enough to use, and this model hits a sweet spot between price and performance. But I do caution you to think carefully about buying one of these tools, if you're thinking it's going to solve many DIY problems, because it really might not, and it's quite a big heavy thing to have knocking about, doing nothing.
